I would like to add that this is advertised with the 56k Ohm resistor. Also gets a B rating on fakespot. Has over 1,000 reviews on Amazon.

Does not support USB PD for Pixels, FYI. Plus some recent reviews on Amazon say it fried their phone due to overnight charging.

Besides using the appropriately sized wire and properly shielding the cable and connector ends, a "regular" USB to USB-C cable requires a 56k Ohm resistor to act as what's called a "pullup" on the VBUS (pins 2 and 17 if you're curious) power channel. This is one of the things you need so a USB-C device can let a power source know how much current to send and when to stop sending it. Using a cable with the wrong size wire will damage the wire. Using a cable with the wrong size resistor can damage the things plugged into each end or start a fire. If one of those things plugged in is your phone you certainly don't want it to be damaged and nobody likes a house fire.

Hence why using a good quality connector/cable is always a good idea with your $600+ investment.

I would love to know how a dumb cable can fry a phone. The amount of charging is controlled by the phone, not the cable.
It's funny, because you and I approached this same question from two entirely different viewpoints. Here's what I learned thanks to kpanasew. Now you know! https://www.androidcentral.com/wh...d-adapters

Love how that second picture shows transfer speed of 480bps. Seems like my dialup modem back in 1983 was faster than that. laugh out loud

11TU with reviews warning of frying their phones...
Is SD feeling lucky recently with all these generic/cheap USB-Cs?? Used to have standards...unsure if shill posts or if the herd has decided it's worth the risk

Initially placed an order but cancelled after reading the negative reviews. Far too many negative reviews for $2/cable.

Thanks. I guess I will stay out of the electronics field. Thanks also to the guy with the Gizmoto link. I cancelled my order to be safe.
