Appears to be the typical tcl 65" at regular price at Walmart for $599– 5 series S models.
No Bluetooth & has edge lit display rather than center.
No it's not. The Costco is a 2018 5 Series. The one you are referencing at Walmart is a 2017 4 Series. A comparable 5 Series at Walmart is currently $750 (like most retailers).

I want to pull trigger but I don't know how much I will miss not having the Contrast Control Zones feature of the 6 Series (and to a lesser extent, the metal frame). Are these feature worth the additional $300?

Are you sure? Isn't it this model:

It's not the same model year as at Walmart. It's a 2018. Walmart is 2017.

How does the HDR on this compare to other sets?

I remember two years ago, the big question was whether a set had true HDR or pseudo-HDR. I'm not sure if this is still a factor and all sets are true HDR or if we should be looking for different types

It's funny how that spec sheet doesn't mention the panel type or how it's backlit. I'd wager it's no different than the 2017 5 series.

Here is a comparison between the 2017 and 2018 model:

https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/c...eshold*0.1

The 2018 edition has a higher contrast ratio, a wider color gamut, and is significantly brighter in SDR. It's a lot brighter in HDR too but still not bright enough to do HDR right. The design on the 18 also looks better (imo).

I think these improvements are worth the extra $50.

I'll add that Costco has been selling a 65" Hisense Roku TV for the same price the past few months and the reviews have been really good (of Costco users). Because of this I don't see any reason to rush for this deal. Something extremely similar has been and will be available any time you want it.

A set needs to get up into the 1000 nits range to be legitimate with HDR. RTings will have that info. Only your higher end Sony and Samsung sets maintain that brightness level, while keeping black levels in check. FALD is a huge bonus with that type of backlighting.

I agree. I just returned the 55" version of this 5 series 2018 model. Everything was beautiful and bright but The Dolby Digital on Netflix was super dim and washed out. It was a deal breaker because it would activate on the installed Netflix app as well as my Chromecast Ultra. That said, regular 4K and Amazon 4K looks amazing. They may have a Dolby Digital HDR update/fix down the road but I was at the end of my return policy. May be worth a try to see if you like it.

The Specifications section on the Costco page say it's Edge Lit.

Some TCL (not this one) and VIzio sets do too for a lot less money.

Anyways having a 1000 nits 65" TCL 6 series now I honestly say the brightness thing is overrated. I'm more perturbed by the dark corners (vignetting) on my TCL than I am enamored by the brightness, although that's just me being OCD. If I could snap my fingers and trade mine in for a 300 nits brightness set without vignetting while saving 400-500 in the process (as I had purchased a 65" $550 Vizio 20128 E-series through discounts, but I returned it to get the "true HDR" TCL), I probably would. And spend that $500 saved on a Huawei Matebook D laptop LOL. So I'd have the Tv AND the laptop.

I will say it's hard to overstate how great the Roku OS and remote is though.

The 2017 model was a 4 series, there was no 2017 5 series. 2018 introduced the 5 and 6 series.
