at this price range, i'm sure there are people who prefer quartz since maintenance cost to fully service a mechanical piece would run probably a few hundred bucks directly from FC...

Seriously...

The YouTubers have overhyped the shit out of automatic watches.

I get the arguments for automatic but really, fark paying that much extra for an automatic that isn't as accurate and will cost a shit load.

When you're in the Rolex and above range, it's a different story. But at $1K and below, automatic is overfarking rated.

I agree... most people live by the 50% rule for cars, if a car repair is 50% of its value you are better off getting rid of it than repairing. Basic autos are 200-350 to service, so if you want to spend that much to repair one, it better be worth 400-750 to even break even. When it comes to complicated movements like chronographs, you are looking at $450-650 to service so that watch better be worth $900-1300 before you bother working on it.

Any auto under those prices be ready to throw away if they need service. If you want something nicer than a $200 watch but not ready to spend $1400+, do yourself a favor and buy a nice quartz watch that will at least last you a long time without many problems.

Nah disagree. Though of course it depends on the watch and your expectations. I have a Swatch Sistem 51 ($150 watch) with a display caseback. It's a gorgeous movement on a fun watch. Plus I love flicking my wrist and hearing that rotor move. It's the mechanics of it!
