This would go on sale right after the wife gives permissions to buy and I go and blow the budget on tower speakers after I miss the original sale.

Anyone made the switch from a Pioneer Elite to a Yamaha unit...I really like Pioneer, but thinking for my 4k set up I'm going to build in the next year to switch over to Yamaha. I'd be coming from an SC-35.

This matches the price of many recent sales.. Think it will go lower than this?

Don't think it would go lower than this price for 30 series. I've always like the Yamaha advantage line. Very well built machines. I prefer them over my last Denon. If I didn't just picked up a NAD recently, I would jump on this. But I must say the NAD is the best sounding receiver I've ever used. Dirac Live is awesome.

Only applies to the A-3070. Think another sale on the A-2070 will come out soon?

I would agree. Especially since the 080 series was just released last week. I'm sure vendors want to clear out their older inventory.

I think there 2070 is not worth it. It has limited number of channels

Yes I bet but even the 777 V3 which only a 7 channel runs like $1K more than this. I do like Dirac and NAD but I need at least 9 channels for our 5.2.4 set up. I would have to go to pre/pro and for the price just doesn't add enough difference to justify.

I would recommend seeing if you can listen to this Yamaha or one similar with your speakers and compare. That give a much better picture if it's worth the change. Unfortunately no one on here will be able to tell you if it's a better for you

I am also looking for deal on Yamaha to switch from SC1522k due to no 4k passthru and no DV or HDR. But I think I am gonna wait for deal on 2018 model to get latest HDMI spec 2.1. I want to make sure I am "some what" future proof.

No 2018 receivers have 2.1 nor are they likely upgradable to it. Maybe 2019 receivers - but most likely 2020.
