Rakuten is the ecommerce giant that bought buy.com. This site is bigger than Amazon in Japan and they are making a big push here in the United States so they're constantly having sales like this. I treat this site like Ebay, filling my cart with things and waiting for sales like this before I buy. I've had nothing but great experiences using this site and highly recommend giving it a look

Playstation and Target had two of the biggest hacks of all time and millions were affected, yet people still go back to them. Don't see why people bring Rakuten hacks up on every thread when it was a much smaller hack and effected substantially less people

I personally use PayPal on every site it's available. I've seen that post before but it was years ago and a lot of other sites have had similar issues in the past as well. From my experience I'd say they've come a lot way since then. But if you're still nervous, use PayPal

Well, if we are giving commentary there were reports of credit card fraud a few years ago after people used their card on Rakuten

Yes, Rakuten is huge in Japan. They own Rakuten professional basebal team and there is Rakuten baseball stadium in my hometown in Japan.
Rakuten also owns E bates, I believe.

It happened 4 years ago. I asume their securities have improved since then. If the sites offer PayPal, I usually use PayPal to pay instead of typing credit/debit cards. I feel safer that way and saves me some hassles.

Another well known fact is that they are official sponsor of the Golden State Warriors in the NBA and Barcelona Soccer club in Europe.

Problem is that a lot of stufd is overpriced by third-party sellers, so they really need these big discounts to make prices competitive
Edit
For example, cheapest nintendo 2ds xl is 162.xx
Even gamestop sells it for 130

Rakuten's customer service is crappy. We bought 2 of the automated trash bins. THye both shipped out and but one of them got shipped back to their depot for no good reason. We contacted Rakuten so they would contact the seller to ship the other unit to us. Waited like almost a week nothing happened. Had to contact the seller directly and they were willing to ship it out to us. Rakuten did not help us where they were supposed to and they promised to help us. So, if it's cheap enough and you know you can resolve any issue by yourself if it ever happens, then it might be worth buying from them.

because I a lot of people were able to conclusively identify that rakuten was the place that caused fraudulent charges (including me). It's not same when a major hack leaks name, address, etc. but doesn't lead to fraudulent charges.
