TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch

Hey - recently jumped on Tenda Nova Mesh System deal and figured will need an ethernet switch to expand on the LAN ports since these things come with only 1 port.

I do have a few devices that I like hard wired with the router so I went looking for the switch and came across this deal. Apparently this was FP back in April here. I purchased a couple of these to add to at least two locations where I have most of the devices physically situated. The device also has over 7000 reviews with 4.6/5.0 FWIW

Both Newegg [newegg.com]and Amazon [amazon.com] has it for $9.99 but amazon offered $1.xx square trade warranty for 4 yrs so I ended up purchasing there. The device itself comes with 2yr but for a $ more, I don't mind another 2yrs on it.

A lot of people recently bought google wifi or tenda nova so this deal might interest them. Hope it helps!

They've done the math and they are willing take 15% of the purchase price from you and roll the dice. The probability is in their favor by a long shot.

i recently needed a gig switch, but then i realized i had a n600 wifi router on the shelf,

so i disabled it's wifi, set it up as an end point - it now works like a 5 gig port switch.

moral of the story; see if you can adapt older equipment to increase wired lan ports.

TU and rep, and got from Newegg as no tax. Squaretrade doesn't seem worth it for such a cheap purchase though IMO as I can get on sale usually for $5 more if that. Also, your description above says rackmount but link is not a rackmount version.

That's good to know - I just used amazon description as stated on their product page.

In terms of warranty, I agree with you but with free shipping for repair and $1.48 out of pocket, I personally don't mind it.

Nice. I guess the downside is the router is likely much larger, and uses 3-4x the amount of electricity I'm guessing.

I have my Desktop (hardwired Ethernet) Nvidia Shield TV (Wifi, but won't to use Ethernet instead) I already have a long Ethernet cord from my router to my desktop. Can I put this Ethernet switch by my desktop and shield, hook up Ethernet to both?

Consumer reports has done the math too. They say to stay away from extended warranties.

In four years not only will this be obsolete, you can buy them for $1.38.

But TU on the deal.

Yup. Cable from the router to the switch. Cable(s) from the switch to each device.
