No contract. Just don't get the rebate for any months that you don't stay.

AKA a device contract. ETF=however months worth of credit you have left.

"Get an S8 for $199 by monthly bill credits when you stay a T-Mobile customer for 24 months." They're committing to give you the S8 for $199, you're committing to stay a customer for those 24 months to get it for $199.

So, instead of buying my own phone, I get one subsidized by TMO. If I was staying with them for another two years anyways.... Then I get this new phone for ~$8 a month.

You are right, the effect is the same even if the terms are different.

I don't understand what's so bad about a two year contract. Where y'all going in two years anyway?
