I like this charger over others, because the LEDs have three states - off, green, red. Red while charging, green when done, off when no controller present.

Other charging stations only turn LED on when its charging - so you can't tell if maybe controller not inserted right, or its done charging.

Good price. Got mine on ebay for $19.99. Had the $10 off coupon from that facebook deal and ebay bucks to get it for less.

If anyone still has a $10 coupon for Google Express Referral back when they had it, you can get this from Target on Google Express for $7.39.

Price $16.40 (Free Shipping at $15)
Tax $.99 (6% sales tax)
Discount $10

How do the joy cons normally charge? Do they charge when connected to the console or to the things that they slide into when you hold them with the straps?

Does anyone know if this kills the life of the joy-cons? I read that Nintendo built in their hardware that if third-party chargers were used, the Nintendo products would die sooner. Something about the parts of each that touch when charging and inefficient charges killing the battery.

Recharges through the console itself. The straps do nothing

It's made by a third party, but on the product page and on the packaging it says "Official Licensed Product", so hopefully if what you said is true, it wouldn't apply to this one.

Also, someone asked a similar question on the product page and said they have overcharge protection or something like that.
