EEA and you

The Slickdeals community thrives on enthusiastic engagement from users like you. When you post, vote, comment, and share deals, you're helping to make Slickdeals the biggest and best shopping community in the world. While we appreciate all contributions, we no longer offer our services in Switzerland and countries in the European Economic Area (EEA). This means user accounts from our friends in the EEA are no longer supported.

We have implemented steps to help verify whether you are an EEA user. If you come across prompts asking if you are an EEA user, please respond immediately. Note that if you see these prompts but do not respond, we will assume you are an EEA user and will begin the process to remove your account. Once your account is removed, your account data will no longer be available.

If you wish to have your account data removed, please let us know by sending an email to privacy@slickdeals.net.

Hi. I am unable to update my status. I was in Europe for vacation and returned back to the United States. Would you be able to assist me before 8/31 so my account will not be removed?

The same thing happened to me. Go to Europe for a brief period, and Slickdeals immediately assumes you are an EEA user. Never mind that 99.99%+ of my previous logins have been from the Los Angeles area. Because I was "busy" in Europe, I missed the three emails sent to me and so, about a week later, my account was deleted. Bazinga.

Woe betide any Slickdeals user going on a European vacation.

Wow, that is beyond ridiculous they are banning people for going on vacation. Response time is ridiculous. Think SD needs to seriously reconsider.

Vacations are great! We just ask that if you go on vacation to a country in the EEA (and visit the site/app), to be sure to verify your account and confirm that you actually don't reside there.

Great going Slickdeals! I too went to Europe for 30 days and upon my return, I find out that my slick deals account was erased and can't be reinstated. Years of posting (since 2004), contributing deals, and earning rep, to be erased by your IT department after only giving me less than 1 week notice? Not cool...

Wait.. why can't these accounts be disabled until making a permanent decision to delete accounts? Users now need to worry whether SD deletes their accounts if they go on vacation? out of hundred of thousand of other websites?

I was in Budapest this past week and made the mistake of logging into Slickdeals.
A box popped up and said my account would be deleted on 10/31/18.

Can someone check to see if my account is OK or will I be banned?

More premature than a virgin on prom night. And they use PM instead of email as the notification? I logged in once by accident and never thought to come back again just to check for PMs from IT... It's like they were trying to figure out an excuse to mass delete accounts.

Yeah now I need to worry about this more than even my bank or credit cards apparently...

Emails are also sent, multiple times before an account is scrubbed. Also there is banner that would show to the member upon their next visit.
So between PMs, emails and a banner at the top of the screen they have many opportunities to click a link to let the system know to not scrub the account.

WHAT THE HELL? I was in Europe for a week and you guys deleted my account?!?!?! I had 100s of rep points and have been a member for years. I logged in at the airport in Iceland and did not have internet access until my return flight. Do not even attempt to reply to this message saying this is MY fault. This error on your part needs to be corrected. People often go on vacation, people do not often move to a different country. #logic

I'm in Europe for a couple days and when I went to log in I got the prompt asking if I was an EEA user. Figuring it was just going to personalize results for the area, I clicked "yes" without googling first (I trusted you), and now the only way to log in to my original account to post this comment was to use a VPN.

If we already have a valid account, surely we should be able to log into it no matter where we are. Also, seeing the other thread on people visiting the EU, I hope this doesn't mark my account for deletion this time and every subsequent time I'm abroad. Some people travel regularly.
