I don't know...sounds to me like he spent $50 on groceries that he would have spent anyway, and got the tools for free. Matter of perspective I suppose. As long as you use the $50 to buy something you would have anyway, you'll end up ahead.

Can you buy something on layaway with syw points?
that way I might get to spend the 50 on an item like a good floor jack or a wood working tool.

Don't get confused by the gimmick.

The Sears tools are $50 (in the case of the 108pc set, it has been $49.99 regular price for ages... often cheaper when on sale). You've just spent $50. Now, ASSuming you actually redeem your points without letting them expire, you get to buy 2x $25 purchases... let's assume you buy Kmart groceries, and let's assume they are competitively priced (sometimes they are, sometimes not). You get $50 in groceries. Now... where was the "free" in all that? You spent $50.

You can still work this into a "deal" if you know how to shop at Sears, but there's nothing "free" about this deal.

I'm new to sears points. I just bought something for the $200 in points deal when you buy $200 in tools (last week's offer). Can I use my installment of approximately $30 in points to buy something with the $50 deal here and get more points?

Unfortunately, you can't rollover points, so the $30 in points that you would use won't earn you a subsequent $30 in points. You can see what exactly you'll get pointswise when you check out.
