No expert on this but I read somewhere that the original Moscow Mule was served in a copper mug lined with nickel, so when your lips touched the edge of the mug--- one lip on copper, one on nickel--- there was some kind of galvanic/electrochemical effect whereby you got a mild electrical tingling in your mouth. Then again, I also read that "Mikey" from the "Hey Mikey!" Life cereal commercials died when he ingested 10 packs of Pop-Rocks on a dare, and I'm pretty sure that's bullshit.

I had a Moscow mule in a glass yesterday. Was crazy, tasted the exact same.

Do people use these for hot drinks as well (tea or coffee), or only for ice cold drinks (Moscow mule).

I have these and like them a lot. Real solid copper, not the "fake" plated ones like you find in a lot of stores.

Generally speaking, these are used mostly for cold drinks. These are pure copper, not lined, and some people assert that drinking out of copper migs like this could lead to ingesting copper at levels of toxicity. Whether or not you believe that, heating them would exaserbate it.

Probably more importantly, copper conducts heat very well so these would actually do a poor job at keeping your drinks warm.

Is there some benefit to copper over stainless steel or any of numerous other materials? Or is it strictly an aesthetics thing?

If you are an addict, the electric chair version will juice you up faster. laugh out loud

Naa, I think it's just a natural germ deter. Or maybe put in the fridge, cause copper transfer heat/cold faster.
