what does this have to hook into in the ceiling? does it need to be hitting a stud in the ceiling I would imagine? I have a room/office overhead the garage and wondering if that impacts whether or not I have studs in the garage roof / office floor.

also, i realize this is $150 off, but it seems like its nothing more than some metal. what makes it so special? For example, costco sells those full metal shelves that have wheels for like $100 give or take and that seems to have just as much metal as this? is this really that heavy duty? it says it can only hold 600lbs across the entire thing. I would have thought it could hold like at least double that

one more question - it says the drop down is adjustable, but in the costco website options, it seems you have to pick one of the three? is that a mistake or do i really need to select the specific dropdown ahead of time and then i am stuck with that?

YES .. you MUST hit a ceiling joist (stud) ... otherwise - BAD THINGS HAPPEN .. this kit actually is designed to hit 2 separate ceiling joists per leg ... Honestly you just need to go to the website and read the reviews -- 99% of your questions will be answered there...

I have this for 2 years now and bought another one recently. The one from 2 years ago seems like better quality than the one from a few weeks ago. But overall works good.

This is not the case at all -- but my favourite (especially with laptop questions) is when there are 10 pages of discussion already ANSWERING the question that they are about to ask - BUT they still ask it .. because they don't want to take a moment to look at the other comments .. Applause

These tend to go on sale every few months. I missed it last time in June/July. What's the lowest price to pull the trigger?

Each item on the drop down menu has a range.

I bought this last time and absolutely love it. My father-in-law bought a cheaper rack and you can definitely tell it's cheaper. It wasn't too bad to install myself. Stud finder and accurate measuring. One of the things I noticed that makes it better is that it doesn't have any flexibility or wiggle when installed... also the mounting brackets had extra holes where the cheaper brand basically gave you one option for where to mount though the brackets.

Do these ever sell for less, or is there a known cheaper alternative that's equivalent?

This seems to be the price every couple of months. They're great racks! I put mine above the garage door for extra out-of-the-way storage.

Does the single 4x8' rack ever go on sale, or is it always the 2-pack with extra hooks?
