Good to play with edgeOS, but seen many reports on issues with VPN and/or offloading. I keep router usually for a long period of time (or until lightning strike), so for those who'd prefer to keep for longer period of time I'd recommend at least ERLite3

This does not work by itself to emit WiFi. This is just 1 piece of the puzzle. You need to provide a wireless access point like one of these: https://www.ubnt.com/products/#unifi

I will say that if you have no networking experience configuring more professional grade stuff, then you may have a tough time as this has a steep learning curve.

This is a WIRED, 4-port gigabit Ethernet router. It has no wireless capability. Since you have a modem, just get a wireless router and you will have wireless and Ethernet connections.

Thank you lol I'll just continue looking for a good deal on a simple WiFi router

This is a pro router. I love it. I run open VPN server on it. No issues. Never rebooted, except for firmware upgrades. Use it with AP uap-ac-m-pro.. working great so far. If u have little bit of Unix experience you can manage.

The best router I've ever had for my house for $40. I hooked it up with a Netgear and an Asus router I already have to use them as AP access with separate 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz frequencies and everything runs like a dream. I haven't resetted the ER-X for 2 months and counting. I haven't tried VPN on it but with my understanding I'll need a beefier router for satisfactory performance.

Yes it does do Load Balancing. I know two businesses that use this to either load balance or failover for their two connections (one DSL and one Cable), works great.
