Get the matebook D if you can. It is a lot better with better thermal. Had this model for 10 days and had to return it. Bad thermal, constant freezing. Stay away..
This has been cheaper last year. The difference being an ssd on this one vs hdd last year. Seeing how ssds have fallen in price I don't see this as much of a discount.

I've had mine for about a month now but I have the 13.3" screen and haven't had an issue with it. I bought the matebook D for my wife and I agree though it is a little bit snappier since it's less bloated. Overall though for what it's worth, I've had better luck with HP in the past, this one also has the infrared camera which allows you to log in with your eyes. I would still recommend this one though

Yes. Daily normal use, probably won't hurt, but I bought it for my kid to play fortnite and overwatch (after he experienced desktop epic quality, he doesn't want to play in his nintendo switch). From the start HP can handle low setting in 720p or 1080p before heat up. But constantly freeze the game one or two times after 2 hrs. But matebook D, from the start 1080p low settings smoothly, 40 to 60 fps, 720p medium avg 60 fps and no freezing issues and more cooler than HP.
HP has throttling issues and not made well. Exterior and looks excellent but not performance wise.
All my AMDs end up with overheating issues and needing re-flow at some point. Coincidence or just bad luck with AMD?
Ryzen 2 is awesome CPU, price and performance wise. Need good thermal to prevent overheating issue. I had my matebook d for 10 days running all days with games and daily use, Netflix, and youtube. Never had issue so far. No freezing or overheating issue.

I need a laptop for work purposes. Pretty basic stuff but with multiple apps running at the same time. Matebook suitable? Definitely need 16gb ram and ssd

Definitely more than enough and it is very similar to MacBook air. Build quality is excellent. If you can buy @ $449, you are going to love it.
However this is 8gb ram and unable to upgrade. (big negative)
