heck if you are able to boot to the computer in safemode. You can follow the steps:

a) Click on Power option at the lower right corner of the log-in screen.
b) Hold Shift and Click on Restart.
c) Click on Troubleshoot.
d) Click on Advance options.
e) Click on Startup options.
f) Click on Restart.
g) Select safe mode by selecting the appropriate number from the options onscreen.
go into your account settings and see if it has been locked or change your account from microsoft to local. I then removed password from my local accoun

Create the bootable USB using rufus

everyone should have hirens on a usb drive before they have an issue.

hirens which is mentioned above has a new windows 10 version

You can imagine our concern about if you just found it or were trying to get into someone's computer.
Besides, you didn't say what model it was as some BIOSes have a special trick.

If it's a Windows 10 computer, make sure it's not using your Live.com/Microsoft account password and not the local computer password.

Could be that the numlock key is on-- that happened to me.
But as people have posted, there are lots of linux-based boot cds out there that will clear the windows password. This assumes that the you are not using full disk encryption (bitlocker, etc), which you probably aren't.
