Wranglerstar, lol.. I used to watch him a lot but he basically started (and continued) shilling products on amazon for affiliate money..

I don't think he ever put up a negative review of a product because it would've hurt his chances at getting free stuff from manufacturers in return for "reviews".

OK, I'll be that guy - how do they compare to the Harbor Freight cheapo equivalents?

I've been thinking of buying some chisels for awhile now, but I figured for something like this HF would win for a casual/weekend woodworker.

Same price at Jet.com: https://jet.com/product/Irwin-Mar...ienceId=21

I have a similar set that I got for Christmas in the 80s, which is supposedly higher quality according to some woodworking circles.

While this adds nothing to the conversation, I just picked up a Wood River 8-pc. set at Goodwill for $4.99, missing a chisel, but looks unused.

Check your local Aldi store for a set of 4 wooden handle chisels. Only $7.99 and with some work, they end up being a nice decent user set.

IMHO, as a weekend warrior/homeowner, one of the most useful things to have on hand is a set of cheap chisels. Then, you don't have to use nice chisels on whatever random bs comes up and can save them for actual woodworking projects.

Using a cheap set (sharpened well) on things like in-place hinges and reclaimed wood and such has saved my nice chisels on multiple occasions. There's not much worse than hitting an embedded nail while chiseling and ruining a nice chisel.

Tempting. Aren't these the ones wranglerstar was gushing over... better than the higher end ones he had, etc? (From his essential tools series?)
Some of you know what I'm talking about!

Me too, few years ago I found his channel and watched ALL the videos he he had. Now I might watch one every couple week. The new stuff is just not up my alley. If I don't learn anything there is no point in wasting my time.
I did rewatch his chisel video just now and these marples are the ones he was raving about. Better than his Stanley sweethearts.
I'm in, can't hurt for $40. I'll give them to my wife to give to me for Christmas that way I'm guaranteed to get at least one gift I want!
