Would you guys wait to see if there is a better BF deal? Or should I jump on this. Does the 8th gen cpu still have throttling issues? Would the 7th gen i7 be just as good?

From what ive read, 8th gen gets a significant boost over 7th gen.

I own a similar msi model. The 6th gen with the 1060. Im not sure if they fixed it, but mine has random crackling audio issues from the speakers.

Yeah that's what I've read on articles by pcmag and the rest of them. I also read that the 8th gen i7 has throttling issues for "no apparent reason" and wasn't sure if that's still the case. Only down side I'd say is that this isn't an 8th gen cpu, other than that I can't see why this wouldn't be a slick gtx 1070 laptop!

I bought mine for around 800usd with tax and shipping. But it was refurbished.

The audio crackling issues is really annoying tho. I hear random pops and clicks every few minutes even if my laptop is on silent. Uninstalled, reinstalled and updated drivers, and its still there.

I haven't seen any good high end gaming laptop deal on BF for the last few years. It's not a high traffic item that will send people to the store or website.

This is GE version which sacrifices speakers for portability. GT version is thicker but has subwoofer and better cooling system. Nice price for 1070 laptop though. I am skeptical to getting gaming laptop on BF especially up to 1070 gpu models.

At the same time I feel like BF deals start earlier and earlier each year for tech. If there is a better deal closer to BF, I doubt it's going to be much cheaper than this.

I have the GF series of this from Costco. 1060 not the 1070 and so far it has been great.

No speaker issues and I don't see any throttling with the 7th gen.

The only complaints I have is the keyboard, while great for a chicklet style is still a chicklet style. I have a harder time using it but I am getting used to it.

Second is the surface near the trackpad get a bit warm when playing games. Not really an issue, and the temps are well within spec.

Overall it was a great buy for a 17" screen gaming laptop.

I did up grade the SSD to a 480gb ADATA nvme m.2. The 128 was just tiny. I left the 1tb Toshiba as it is a pretty quick spindle unit.

Have to agree in this.

Best Buy had a sale 2 weeks ago for the MSI GS65 STEALTH THIN-037, which is one of the most popular gaming laptop. There was no mention in Slickdeals. IIRC, it was $150 off and sold out within a day. They're back in stock now.

So here's the deal. 8th gen is 30-35% faster than 7th gen I7. While this does have a 1070 NON max Q, that Cpu kill it for the price. Why? Look at open box Asus ROG GU501M at Best Buy. Sleek thin laptop with i7 8th gen, 1060 AND 120 hz monitor with 16gb ram and same storage specs. Price you ask? I got mine for $1030 plus tax. I'd rather have mine and mines portable plus 8th gen and 120 hz. This is a Luke warm deal, if you need to replace a desktop then yes but I'd wait a bit longer.

Would this be a good laptop for racing games using VR motion simulators?
