No, Max Q gives slightly worse performance for better battery life.

Got the laptop in hand now. Arrived in less than 1 day with 1-2 business day shipping.

Box pic is interesting. I think this model is direct from China... didn't even try to put local branding.

Geekbench/cdisk scores:

Overall first impressions:

Good:

Screen quality is excellent. Was worried about a 1080p screen but the IPS screen is crisp and bright. Even being 60Hz only I am still impressed. Speakers are surprisingly decent as well and don't sound harsh/tinny like my previous dell.

Blazing fast performance - see bench results. Overall user experience is great. Haven't gamed yet but I plan to soon. I can post updated thoughts later. I should easily get 4 years of use out of this.

I actually like the keyboard. I like having a full numpad. I don't care about RGB lights so white backlighting is good enough for me.

Chassis is well built. Most ports in the back and the connections feel solid. Even for being mostly plastic, it feels sturdy, the hinges are high quality, and appears to dissipate heat well (haven't felt the keypad get hot). It doesn't "look" premium but the alminum/thick plastic combo suggests to me it'll hold up well.

Almost no bloatware. Only had to uninstall mcafee and otherwise it's a clean slate

Power connector design. This doesn't seem to get much attention in reviews but I've had several laptops that were designed in a way that power connector would easily break/stretch the cord. Huge upgrade from my Dell XPS15 (9530 model)

Neutral:

Design is understated for a gaming laptop but I still prefer the Y530/Y730 design better. Screen does NOT bend 180 degrees but that's not a big deal to me anyway, though it was supposedly a feature of the design.

It's not heavy considering the specs but I still wish it was a tad lighter and slimmer. My last laptop was an XPS15 ultrabook and while it had horrible build quality, I do miss the light weight. But considering the specs I can't complain too much.

60Hz screen. Let-down, but again colors are vibrant and crisp. I've never actually owned a screen with >60Hz so I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

Bad:

I hate the trackpad. Probably my least favorite part about this laptop. Personal preference I guess, but it feels cheap and lacks tactile button.

Fans sound like a jet engine when they get going. VERY loud. It's dead silent when not being stressed however.

For the "edgless" display the huge bezel at the bottom bothers me. I'd rather not even have a webcam at all and save that space.

Overall:

I'm happy all things considered, but I'm not blown away. It doesn't really have a "premium" feel that I think the Y730 or even Y530 would have, but it feels good to type on and the screen feels good to look at. I feel like I got a good deal on a slightly ugly, well specced laptop. But more importantly - this has a 4 year warranty and generous return policy. I've owned tons of laptops over the years, and every. single. one. has had something break/die on it at some point, usually within the first 1-2 years. So having the costco warranty seals the deal for me.

That said, if not factoring warranty and return policy, there's probably going to be better deals for BF out there. This is what we all know it is - a kind of cheap looking high performance gaming laptop. But for me it's a big upgrade from my awful 4 yr old Dell XPS15 this replaces. My opinion may change very well change though. It'll get heavy use soon because I have a business trip next week and I can decide if this is really what I want to stick with or not.

MaxQ lowers down the performance compared to full version to reduce battery usage and improve the battery duration

my Legion Y520 from a sale posted here last year was installed on the SSD.
I custom built my Y520 maxed it all out at the time.

wow this is an incredible deal

i've been very happy with lenovo legions, however their bios updates have been a royal shitshow and their have annoying bios whiteslists for which NVMe SSD you can use

the fact that it comes with a 256 + 1TB HDD means you're set. 16 GB of memory will be plenty already. great deal. if i didn't already have a Y720 i'd be all over this
