I have had these and the towers and will say they are a good (albeit big) speaker for the money. they were my entrance into home audio and I definitely enjoyed them for a few years before upgrading. Ultimately I found out I REALLY enjoy music and home theater at my house so we raised the budget substantially and replaced them.

Also if you like little projects you should strongly consider building a pair of CNOTES from PartsExpress. They sound world's better and are $100 plus binding posts ($5-10) and whatever you want to do for finishing (paint or duratex or whatever). They only need a few clamps and a soldiering iron to build as far as tools (excluding painting). The build was really fun relatively easy because the wood is already CNC machined so you essentially glue and clamp then build corssovers then paint. If you are worried about difficulty there are at least 2 complete builds on YouTube that you can follow that I've watched personally that were great.

Anyway the CNotes sound spectacular for the absurdly low cost so much that I don't think the AJs are worth it IF you would like a little project.

You mean better than the $40/per deal from Newegg last month?

Thanks OP. Stupid question: what's the coupon code? I am on Fry's mailing list but somehow didn't get this.

you have to be on the promo code list [frys.com], one gets sent to you

code 2288 may work generically

WTF how did I miss that?

The only consistent deal I see with those were for $69 each. :/

Depends on your needs. If you don't need the latest and greatest (4k hdmi switching, etc.), I've had a lot of good luck picking up cheap receivers from about a decade ago on craigslist. They don't do hdmi switching, so you'll have to make do with optical in from your TV, but otherwise, I don't think you can beat the value at <$50!
