Best Buy has the 55" TCL 5 Series on sale for 399.99. It is an excellent TV for the specs. Has HDR10 + Dolby Vision, 4k Roku, wide color and extremely low input lag which is great for gaming. Its one step below the TCL 6 Series.

Alternatively, Amazon and Walmart have the 5 Series for 429.99 which include a wifi remote while the Best Buy version requires line of sight / IR.

This monitor may be unsuitable as a PC Monitor..

ONLY the 43 inch model does 1:1 mapping without the cross hatch pattern..

"Rting only tested the 43 inch model."

49 inch and above ALL HAVE the crosshatch pattern. not 1:1 mapping.

The bottom image supplied by Rting Confirms crosshatch pattern on the 49 inch and 55 inch Panels.

We don't have photos of the 65 inch , but it is almost 100% certain that it will be present.

This can not be turned off.

The Crosshatch pattern also extends to the TCL s4-series s5-series P6-series and R6-series from both THIS year and LAST year's

I have the 65" for past 3
Months. For budget bed rm gaming 4K tv I can't complain. Love the built in Roku with volume or app control. I'd get another in 85" if they had one. Waiting for oled though for that size at a good price.

Yeah but you had a TV for the past two years. Who the hell mocks someone because tech dropped in price over a two year period.

That's what I was thinking. Make an informed decision when buying...but what do you get out of mocking someone's decision from years earlier.. life is too short. We all know technology improves and should go down in price over time.

I refuse to buy these TV because of the ads. If someone can show me how to get rid of them, let me know.
hah, I had to check to see what you meant. Funny I don't even notice them, I couldn't tell you one ad that I even looked at. I just looked again and you won't even see them on the home screen. Once you scroll over to an input or app then you will seen ad in right column.

I rarely use the stock Roku apps since I have 4K HTPC, Ultra chromecast and Xbox one S on top menu. And ads can be avoided completely by using the ROKU APP on your phone. I have 55S and 65R side by side so I have a spare phone for each menu anyway.

ok calm down- take a deep breath - step down off the soap box. Its really just commentary on buyers remorse. I spend zero time on willing ill will on people who get a good deal on tvs. these things will all end up in a landfill next to each other given enough time.

It's only 50 bucks off, is this really a deal?
This TV was a good value anyways, $50 off $450. Very good panel for watching movies in a dark room and playing games. It's only $400, you get Roku, Dolby Vision and HDR10, what else do you want?

Would like to mention one major downside of this panel, lack of a good peak brightness, you are really going to miss those HDR scene bright highlights, those eye popping beautiful life like colors. Just make sure to watch it in a dark room to mitigate the problem, other than that, good contrast ratio, wide color gamut (comparable to flagship models), one word "Good Value", makes my 3 year old LG IPS panel look like crap, paid $1,500 for it BTW, although IPS has its own good offerings too.

Debating between this one and the $329 4-series @Costco. It will be placed in a bedroom for streaming and some light console gaming. Is the picture quality improvement significant enough to justify the difference in price and warranty?
I'm holding off for the 4 series from Costco. Been keeping an eye on TCL's for a little bit and read a review (think it was RTINGS but cant remember for sure) that if you were debating between the 4 or 5 series, the 4 was the better option because the improvements weren't all that substantial to justify the increase. $80 is $80! 6 series was a large improvement over 4, but now you're ~$200 more and thats getting a little more significant. Regardless that they're a good value even at retail, its all what you're willing to spend.

We dont watch all that much TV and our living room isnt very bright, so it will most likely be fine and we're coming off an older entry level Samsung that died 3 months ago and we never replaced, so i'm pretty sure anything will be an improvement.

FWIW, I stopped at Costco today b/c yesterday the guy told me the price was dropping today, and it was at $339. I was about to take it home and do a price match, but he was 99% sure they weren't price matching BF deals this year. He said they had about 12 of them, so i'll just roll the dice that they have one left on Tuesday. I'm sure they'll be getting more in before the end of the sale anyway. Said they were hoping to have the 6 series in the store at some point, but wasn't sure when.

Thanks, looks like the best option for the set, updated the deal. Only difference between the Best Buy version vs Walmarts and Amazons is Best Buy has a cheaper remote that uses IR and the other version has a wifi remote. The tvs are identical otherwise.
Could just do a price guarantee with Citi to get the Amazon one for $399. Sweet.

(In a nutshell..) How do y'all think TCL holds up on picture, clarity, sound, etc vs some of the other leading TV brands? Bc for this size, a couple hundred is mos def a difference... would you "get what you pay for" for a bedroom TV?

I'm in a dilemma. Just upgraded living room TV to a Sony 75 incher and debating if I should install my Panasonic 50inch plasma to bedroom or donate it and buy a 55 or 65 TCL. Eyes to TV distance will be around 15 ft. I have TiVo in living room but unable to run coax or cat6 from living to bedroom ( damn fireblock in middle of drywall). TCL will give me roku and all streaming apps but won't do TiVo ( and hence, no access to recorded shows). TCL also solves the headphone issue so one can plug it into the remote when the partner is sleeping. If I go TCL route, at this distance, does 5 or 6 series matter?

The 55S517 is also on sale at Electronics Express for $429.99

With promo code 5OFFPROMO it comes down to $408.49 before tax, if applicable. This brings it very close to the Best Buy price for the 55S515, making the upgraded remote a $8.50 upgrade. That's worth it IMO.

Argh. Every day I wake up hoping for a deal on the 55R617. Doubt it's happening. They have deals on every TV but that one. I'm just going to pay retail
6 series was just on sale 50$ off a week or two ago at Best Buy. It was a two day sale, it's when I bought mine.
