Best Buy has the 55" TCL 5 Series on sale for 399.99. It is an excellent TV for the specs. Has HDR10 + Dolby Vision, 4k Roku, wide color and extremely low input lag which is great for gaming. Its one step below the TCL 6 Series.

Alternatively, Amazon and Walmart have the 5 Series for 429.99 which include a wifi remote while the Best Buy version requires line of sight / IR.

This monitor may be unsuitable as a PC Monitor..

ONLY the 43 inch model does 1:1 mapping without the cross hatch pattern..

"Rting only tested the 43 inch model."

49 inch and above ALL HAVE the crosshatch pattern. not 1:1 mapping.

The bottom image supplied by Rting Confirms crosshatch pattern on the 49 inch and 55 inch Panels.

We don't have photos of the 65 inch , but it is almost 100% certain that it will be present.

This can not be turned off.

The Crosshatch pattern also extends to the TCL s4-series s5-series P6-series and R6-series from both THIS year and LAST year's

6 series was just on sale 50$ off a week or two ago at Best Buy. It was a two day sale, it's when I bought mine.
Any banding or vignette issues?

(In a nutshell..) How do y'all think TCL holds up on picture, clarity, sound, etc vs some of the other leading TV brands? Bc for this size, a couple hundred is mos def a difference... would you "get what you pay for" for a bedroom TV?
TCL is undercutting the competition by both making all their own tv components in house as well as pricing below market value to get a foothold in the US market. Price wise nothing can touch these sets for the specs and picture quality. However they have some quality control problems and customer support is pretty bad as well so be ready to do a possible return to get a better set if you get a bad panel. For example TCL considers up to 16 dead or stuck pixels normal and won't replace the panel for you under warranty

I refuse to buy these TV because of the ads. If someone can show me how to get rid of them, let me know.
I have the s405, 49 inch, the roku ad pops up in the right side when I'm choosing an input only. Its not intrusive at all for me. Ads are usually for some roku channel.

I have the 65" for past 3
Months. For budget bed rm gaming 4K tv I can't complain. Love the built in Roku with volume or app control. I'd get another in 85" if they had one. Waiting for oled though for that size at a good price.
You'd get a budget TV if they had it, but are waiting for an 85" OLED to drop to a reasonable price? You'll be waiting a long, long time. You might want to consider a higher end Samsung if price is an issue, not an 85" OLED.

The input lag argument is stupid, that's only half of the equation. If the response time is terrible, enjoy the headaches

Anybody have any idea what the black Friday price on this will likely be, as well as what the 6 series BF price will look like?

The 55S517 is also on sale at Electronics Express for $429.99

With promo code 5OFFPROMO it comes down to $408.49 before tax, if applicable. This brings it very close to the Best Buy price for the 55S515, making the upgraded remote a $8.50 upgrade. That's worth it IMO.

Um no tax for most I believe!

I was deciding on this as well but ended up grabbing the 55S423 at Costco today, It was a bedroom TV so a went for the savings and Costco warranty options because of TCL's quality issues.

That holds true for this comparison too. I've read the difference between the Samsung 6950/7100/7200 and TCL 5 Series comes down to a few things. The TCL supports Dolby Vision, does HDR a bit better and has better colors due to WCG. The Samsung has better gray uniformity and is better quality. The TCL is also typically a bit cheaper, excluding special deals.

If it were me, I'd buy the TCL if I could get it locally so returns are easy and don't cost me anything. If I must buy online, I'd buy the Samsung since it is more likely I don't need to return it.
