Best Buy has the 55" TCL 5 Series on sale for 399.99. It is an excellent TV for the specs. Has HDR10 + Dolby Vision, 4k Roku, wide color and extremely low input lag which is great for gaming. Its one step below the TCL 6 Series.

Alternatively, Amazon and Walmart have the 5 Series for 429.99 which include a wifi remote while the Best Buy version requires line of sight / IR.

This monitor may be unsuitable as a PC Monitor..

ONLY the 43 inch model does 1:1 mapping without the cross hatch pattern..

"Rting only tested the 43 inch model."

49 inch and above ALL HAVE the crosshatch pattern. not 1:1 mapping.

The bottom image supplied by Rting Confirms crosshatch pattern on the 49 inch and 55 inch Panels.

We don't have photos of the 65 inch , but it is almost 100% certain that it will be present.

This can not be turned off.

The Crosshatch pattern also extends to the TCL s4-series s5-series P6-series and R6-series from both THIS year and LAST year's

Picked up this TV today. Is this an appropriate amount of backlight bleed? The picture in the RTINGS review looks a lot better but I don't know if that's just a function of how I took my photo.
I bought this TV over the weekend, and love it! Mine has almost EXACTLY the same backlight bleed pattern that yours does. It bugs me a bit but if there's any light in a scene it's nearly unnoticeable. I assume it is the cost of getting a budget TV brand over a fancy-pants one.
If you find any fixed, or do an exchange successfully let me know and I will follow suit! If not, I'll probably just learn to live with it.

The 6 series were the best of the budget bunch from what I found... .still they cost more (of course) than the 4 or 5 series....
BF is close and a few deals on the larger size are up. I love 65R, don't see how I could go back to 55" now. 65" TCL 65R615 6 Series 4K UHD HDR Roku Smart TV $900 + Free Shipping https://slickdeals.net/f/12238348-65-tcl-65r615-6-series-4k-uhd-hdr-roku-smart-led-hdtv-899-99-free-shipping-best-buy#comments like they say buy the best and biggest you can afford, that pretty much sums it up.

Now you can get additional $25 off through SlickDeals rebate. So with Amex offer you can get it for $345 :-)
This. I was originally leaning towards the TCL 6 series or Samsung NU8000.
But I don't game and I'm not looking to buy a 4K player and/or 4k Blu rays anytime soon. I'd mostly be watch Dish, with some Prime and Netflix streaming.
So I'm 'thinking' without that true HDR content, those better TVs would be kind of wasted on me. Decisions, decisions...

Doesn't netflix have some true HDR content?

Just wondering for myself.

Also, are slickdeals rebates reliable? Never done one.

bought & registered for the SD $25 bb gift card.

No other TV has HDR10 + Dolby Vision for this price. I'm sure the 6 series is worth the extra $200 but with 2 young kids, a $400 price is great.

In the bottom right corner of the UI menu. It doesnt play any ads when youre watching anything. Not excusing ads since any ads are unacceptable in a purchase like this, but its only Roku ads suggesting free shows or movies to watch on their channel from what Ive seen.

To those who know TCL tvs... I bought the 55s517 a couple weeks ago for ~440. I see the 55s403 and 405 are going on sale for Black Friday for ~340. With those being about $100 less, do you thing the s517 warrants spending 100 more? Also, what do you think of the 65" one, the 65S4 that's going to be on sale at Walmart for $400? Thanks.

Btw, thanks to everyone who told me how to get rid of the TCL ads. I actually decided to get a Sony 900F 55" TV instead.

Got the 55" 515 from Best Buy for $400. For that price it's worth it, BUT for others I'd probably recommend either saving money and getting the 4 series, or spending the extra for the 6 series.

I decided on 5 series over 4 in order to get Dolby Vision HDR. As of right now, the firmware for it just doesn't work well, and there is forced dynamic contrast so that back light goes up and down in a very distracting way for Dolby Vision. So after testing, I actually disabled HDR altogether (via secret menu) and keep it at "regular" 4K which actually still looks GREAT to me! Much brighter and more vibrant colors than when using HDR. So I'd bet the 4 series would look nearly as good if HDR is turned off anyway. And probably the 6 has better specs to make the HDR fully great, though I could be wrong. I've heard good things.

Back light bleed in corners is a minor problem, rarely noticeable now but it's there.
Black levels and contrast in general is quite good!
Overall interface is great! Remote from Best Buy is actually totally fine in my book, but I also use the phone app which is excellent, and my Harmony remote, so if you don't like the remote there are easy options to avoid it.
The "ads" people have discussed are so minimal you'd be hard pressed to notice. Just one box shown sometimes on home screen, usually just showing a still image of a movie cover.

Works fine connected to my PC, haven't noticed these crosshatching issues but I sit far enough back maybe I just don't notice.

does anyone know what size screw the wall mount requires for this tv?

we purchased this yesterday and took the mount off of our 10 year old plasma and it looks like over the last 10 years they changed the standard size. Smilie the screws from the plasma are to large.
