4.2 out of 5 stars on Amazon with 3,800 reviews [amazon.com]. Pretty good for a router. The lowest price on Amazon it's ever been was $140 so this seems like a fair deal if you're in the market for it.

Very mediocre router. The only thing this really has going for it is looks. But it underperforms other routers at the same price or cheaper. And since it's based on the Intel chipset, it is not going to get DD-WRT, Tomato or anything else anytime soon. Also, no AI Mesh from ASUS.

Maybe they've added it. Still a mediocre router and not worth getting.

SNB reviewed it and were initially underwhelmed, then a firmware revision came out and it performs considerably better now.

Even after the firmware revision, they still rate it as inferior to other cheaper routers and don't recommend it unless you must have the aesthetics.

An alternative that uses the same Intel Chipset is available for a lot less.

The Philcomm K3C was also tested by Smallnetbuilder and is $90 on Amazon and in the $50-$70 range new on eBay.

A small chinese company...so no where near the support of Asus and the firmware is very basic. But a nice price for the same general performance.

Amen Deelseaker. Bunch of teenagers writing on this thread. Btw, any extra $ off with masterpass or such with Newegg? Btw, with it's newest firmware on this blue cave is it worth spending $50 more for AC86U? I'm thinking not.

Probably not. Smallnetbuilder says: "Its [Blue Cave's] wireless performance is as good or better than the RT-AC86U's and it's also less expensive". I'm sure they both were tested using older firmwares, but the conclusion is likely still valid.

Wireless performance may be similar, but looks like the router in the OP has the bcm4709 (similar to the ac68 aka t-mobile router) whereas the ac86 has the bcm4906 with hardware-accelerated encryption. If you use a vpn on your router then definitely go for the ac86 [privateinternetaccess.com].
