This isn't a good deal, its the spec'd down version of the surface with an M processor.

Do the BF deal at costco instead for the i5 one.

This is not the latest model if your specs are to be believed. Surface pro 6 does NOT come In an m3 variant. Base model starts with an i5. This is the surface pro (2017)

I wasn't able to see your link at first. Looks like the error is on Best buy's side, as they're the ones that have it labeled as the surface pro 6 but specs say otherwise.

Yep, looks like Best Buy has the wrong name/description on this. It's definitely a 5th generation (2017) Surface and not a "Surface Pro 6" as BB states.

Unfortunate really because I would have jumped on a Pro 6 at this price point.

Apparently it is, MS secretly gave some retailers an m3 version, it is probably a re-skinned garbage old version they are calling a surface pro 6.

Source?

NVM I found A source. not sure how reliable neowin is
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www....b-storage/

pretty shady on Microsoft and retailers if true. seems like a quick cash grab hoping for people to mistake the SP6 branding and try to score a deal, only to get a underwhelming device by comparison to the real SP6 models.

I think i read somewhere at launch there was no m3 at launch, but eventually there would be. nice try MS.

Yeah not sure if it's still a good deal for the fifth gen one. If warranty is just 1 year, that might be concerning.

Costco will have a Pro 6 bundle on sale around black Friday for $800 [costco.com]

For the extra $200 you get current generation (a true 2018 model aka Pro 6) with an i5 processor, 8gb RAM (BB model only has 4GB) and the surface pen. That's worth the extra cash to me. Plus Costco adds an additional year of warranty (which doubles again if you have a Costco Citi Visa). I think that is a far better value although it does require a Costco membership which not everyone has.

Not trying to thread crap or anything, just analyzing this deal a bit. In general the Surface retains its value fairly well in my experience (similar to an Apple product). So a used 2017 surface, potentially with an expired warranty, goes for about $600. That makes this on par with what you would find in the 2nd hand market making it a lukewarm deal IMO. You could spend a little more and get a much improved hardware and warranty. Or you could spend less and buy a used older model putting this deal right in the middle. You get pro's of a brand new device under warranty but the con's of a generation old device/hardware which you pay a bit of a premium for.

They decline pricematches for single letter mismatches. It's not an error. They know perfectly what they're doing. Pure deception.

There's nothing "garbage" about this or the M3. The display is gonna blow most 599 laptops away in quality. M3 is fine as well unless you really wanna do heavy work on it.

The biggest caveat and it's a big one is, only 4GB RAM. That would make me think twice as if I spend $600 on a laptop I'd want to be sure it will last a few years in performance.

So you can go get a $600 laptop which specs that dwarf this but a crap sub 250 nit display. It's always trade offs.
