Uhh....wut? Subs are passive and amped themselves. If you've seen a difference between this and your Onkyo, they were configured differently.

If you're asking about the sound quality, it's fine - not as good as the Sony STR-DN1080 or 2018 receivers, but I can't imagine anyone being unhappy with it.

If you're asking about the auto-EQ room correction, it's mediocre. Sony and Denon room correction is better.

The main appeal to this model is all the HDMI ports. If you don't need this many HDMI ports, you can get the comparable (and arguably better) Yamaha RX-V683 for $100 less.

Subwoofers are self-powered with their own amplifiers. If your sub sounds louder (or quieter) with a different receiver, that's due to a calibration difference. Properly calibrated, they should sound exactly the same.
