For those considering the new Google Home Hub.....this is a better deal IMO.

how's the audio comparison, since you've had both? obviously not expecting anything ground breaking... but if it's where the Echos are, that's fine (hopefully more mids and less lows than the stupid Echo Show.)

really wish Wyze would make something for the Google devices already... would like to dump my Echo Shows, they're really pieces of crap.
Do you have new (10") echo show?

Yes. This is on SD therefore you desperately need this. All jokes aside, I think I'll get the hub just for the picture frame sake. I have so many Google photos that I want to rotate through that this would be my digital album. The rest automation stuff will be bonus.
LMAO My wallet has often fallen prey to the lure of SD's that I "need"!! And I'd be afraid of using this to rotate my pictures, I'm sure I have some (ahem) inappropriate ones in the mix Wink

I think the coolest thing I've seen in the commercials on TV for these things is showing recipes in the kitchen as you're cooking, as I'm not a great cook. Other than that I'm really not sure what I'd use this for.

Side note: I think the Google Hub looks cooler than the Lenovo version, even if it's smaller.

My wife says the 8" isn't big enough, she wants a 10" one. Anyone know if that is going on sale?
That's what she said... (you walked into that one)

have the google home hub and think ill return all 4 that i paid $99 each for

no camera to me takes away major functionality usage

you cant like sideload plex and watch movies or anything, so its pretty dumbed down vs a tablet which would be much more valuable.

...however, don't think ill jump on this having seen how useless and limited these devices are. you REALLY are better off with a 10" kindle fire tablet and some kind of docking station.

BTW, has any one tried FB portal? Is it more into video calling rather than Alexa?

Does anyone know if you can have it display only certain photos from Google photos? For example, can you create a custom album and have it display only those as a screensaver, to act essentially as a digital photo frame?

If I had to buy today I would consider the smart display to save cash but I suspect if you wait we'll see the Hub at $99. The argument for the hub is that Google will give better, quicker, and more frequent updates to software. It also doesn't have a camera for the security minded. If you want the camera I guess the smart display becomes more valuable. The display on the hub is better despite being sightly smaller. Not sure on audio quality.
Just read a review and there is a physical shutter built into the device to cover the camera if that feature bothers you (it does me).

My wife wants the same thing. Cheapest I've seen is 200 at Costco, it's the regular price there. Waiting to see if it'll go down anymore.

nope, too expensive...
these limited function displays aren't worth anywhere near what they want for them. picked up 2 of the first gen for ~80$ each.

I think Google selects the "best" pictures via AI and image recognition to display on the frame. Those inappropriate ones might get skipped hehe. I still think this is a decent item if you want a central hub for home automation and for quick interactions for instructions, traffic, YouTube, etc.

Same, returning all home hubs. This has so many more benefits, size, resolution, camera. Only plus I see to the home hub is ambient light sensor.

Camera has a physical cover that you can flip closed. Both have a switch to turn off the mic. The Lenovo has a front firing speaker, while the Google Hub has a rear firing speaker.

I've heard the Lenovo has a better sounding speaker, plus the camera. The Google Hub has a smaller screen (smaller than both versions of the Lenovo), but has the light sensor. Google Hub is also directly from Google, so it should receive decent update support. I was hoping Google would release an external camera at some point, but I think the only plug available is power...

Trying to decide if I return by Google Hub to Home Depot and get the Lenovo so my kids can video call my parents when they want.

no need to sideload plex. you can cast plex to it, as well as hulu, youtube, google movies (those are just the ones i've tried). Netflix did not work last I tried, but hopefully will be implemented.
