Solid specs for the price, great for for Internet and general office productivity. Not everyone needs full-HD screen resolution, and I doubt there's noticeable difference between 7th and 8th gen i5. I assume the SSD is SATA, but it's certainly nice not to have to replace a spinner.

Cons: no backlit keyboard, 802.11ac, Gigabit ethernet, optical drive (despite clearly showing one in the pics). I'd gladly trade the touchscreen for those.

It has a 1366 x 768 HD resolution. What kind of resolution is good/the best? Why is that a deal breaker?

Generally speaking, more pixels are better... but it also depends on what kind of content you plan on viewing, and how much you care about how good it looks.

Good laptop for a middle school student, or even a high school student who uses a computer for school work only.

True, also depends on screen size too. For example, 12.5 inch with 1080p screen = small letters.

Thanks. These articles should be posted for all laptops posts with 1366, it's good information.

One can also add quite readily and easily enough a very fast high performance Samsung 256Gb micro sd card to expand on the existing integrated onboard very fast highly reliable performance 256Gb Solid State Drive for a very high combined total storage capacity of 512Gb which is a very substantial amount of ultra fast high performance memory for most computer users software applications which comes in very handy for everyday routine day to day computer tasks that easily handles multi-tasking computer applications without any real problems.

There is a huge difference between the 7th and 8th gen i5. With other generations there were incremental speed increments 15-20%. Gen 7 to 8th was where things leaped forward by over 80 percent speed increases and double the core count

7th Gen OK if it was a quad core (there's no huge performance diff between 7th gen and 8th gen if cores were the same)

However, this is only a dual core and there's been plenty of deals for i5-7300Q (quad) or i5-8250U (quad)
