No reason to get this for you unless you want higher quality 4K and the best Dolby audio with your movies. But it's a steep price for not much gain imo
Thanks I'll pass on it then. The quality I have for movies is just fine and I only have a sound bar.

I think you know the answer is no....sold my echo dots about a year ago,and don't miss them one bit...and xbox and fire/roku can do the rest! https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...ies2/peace.gif
Yeah I'm passing on this one but thanks OP. I have 3 Dots and use them daily. I need one for the basement still but there is nothing "smart" in the basement yet.

It is for people who paid 2k-3k for an OLED UHD Dolby Vision/HDR TV and are not willing to buy UHD discs and just download them. Most of those current gen OLED TVs can play those mkvs just not always as smooth as one wants. Obviously speaking from my friends's experience. He has a dedicated NAS for those UHD movies.

I have plenty of Gen 2 dots, and 2 Shields, and no need for another or a Dot 3, and I still want to buy one. Haha.
I am in the same situation and have to agree

If you have a smart TV with android and Ps4 is this still needed?

I'm trying to justify buying this but can't. Cause the tcl android TV does everything fine.

In my part of the world tcl comes with android TV not roku.

Anyone stream pc games with this?
I've used it regularly and have to admit it's still not completely there yet if you're looking for the "boot up a console and just launch a game without thinking about it" experience for every single PC title that's out there.

For the games it fully supports right now, it's just like booting up and playing a regular game console, however: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/games/
That list is growing little by little.

For the games that aren't on that list (yet), you can still launch the Steam app and play most everything you have in your Steam library. Where it gets to require a little patience sometimes (not always) is when you have to tinker with display settings to fit your TV; or when a PC game doesn't have full controller support (or even any at all) and requires use of a keyboard and mouse. Right now, I'd say it's at a stage where it's viable enough to warrant going for it; but as it gets better, I can see it becoming the next phase of how we play video games in due time.

It's a good streaming box but I replaced mine with an Apple TV 4K because unfortunately the shield does not work with Dolby vision nor Dolby 5.1(Sonos surround).

I was going to say, that's odd, Roku is much better than Android TV. So you aren't gaining much except raw power. If the my Shied would run DTVN app I'd use it more. I guess mine is current gen, just got it a few months ago for $118 on prime deal.

Agreed. The only thing the Shield could have done for you was save you a grand by combining that all into a tiny box for under 200 bucks. That ships seems to have sailed for you though.

You are welcome lune3ydav3.
it is not a bad idea for a holiday gift. Bought an additional bubdle for my sister. She and her husband are getting Shield and I am giving the dot to my nephew :p
Christmas has been saved!
