Looks good for the specs and the price. Only drawback for me would be Acer, but that is more personal preference. Plus since RTX 2000 series is already out for desktops and coming in laptops( I see some people say as early as November, some early 2019 at CES), if you don't need a laptop right a way, might be worth the wait at this point... But on the other hand I don't expect them to be cheap...
So it is a good machine for the money. And it has enough "horsepower" on paper to run VR decently.

i'd say Acer - the BB Asus is with 1060 3GB card. But on the other hand has more storage - 512GB SSD. These are the obvious things that strike at first glance. There are probably other differences, that are not that easy to see untiol you see tha machine - like RAM timings, power etc. But solely on the Video card - I'd pick the Arer for mid-range gaming laptop.

Isn't this a solid deal? Are the down votes all for a wrong title?
Good deal. There's also a 999 Lenovo from Costco but screen is 60hz. I may get that because of the warranty over this (2yrs Costco warranty +2 extra if you use as their CC) but I never had luck with Acer (personal preference). Then theirs the G5/G7 and then the omen 15 all in the 899-1099 price range. Similar specs but each has something different better panel or HP has TB3 etc etc .

Bought this at 1099 2 weeks ago and the battery died after a week of use. It shuts down after unplugging it and sometime it randomly shuts down even while it's plugged in. Called amazon and I'm returning it tomorrow for a refund. I've seen a few people on the Internet with the same problems so beware.

Video RAM - This 6GB, ASUS - 3GB
Monitor - This 15.6 IPS 144hz, ASUS - 17.3" IPS 60hz
Storage - This 256GB NVME SSD, ASUS - 512GB SSD only
Popularity - Deal score 44, ASUS - Deal score 1.

Me comparing both in a B&M store: Build quality - I'll go with Acer. Looks - neither really (Acer looks "gamey", Asus TUF looks meh).

Common complaint with this - heat. Common complaint with Asus - none, because not many people have bought it yet to warrant a good base for reviews.

If you do get the Asus TUF, please let us know how'd it go.

I was already going to purchase the Asus from best buy until I saw that it was a 1060 3gb instead of a 1060 6gb. That's a deal breaker.
