I was skeptical for a long time and hated them. Then I started to warm up to them and happened to spot one of those Gotham steel infomercial ones (though I didn't know it was an infomercial brand at the time) for $17 at a liquidation center, so I figured for that cheap it was worth it. I love it!!! I wouldn't say it gets food as crispy and good as a deep fryer but it's def better than an oven and much faster. No preheating. I can do raw chickens fingers in 20-30 ish minutes. And chicken nuggets in 10. I can't even preheat my oven that fast. Mozzarella sticks should be great in it. I'm recently divorced and it's been very helpful for me. I want to try burgers in it this weekend.

I had a chefman brand immersion circulator and food saver vacuum sealer thing. No issues. Actually I've been impressed with the vacuum sealer for it only being $30.

OK here's my Verdict on Mozz Sticks:

Pre-MAde Mozz Sticks in Convection Oven:
-Requires turning
-Usually comes out ok consistency wise
-Taste is often "bland"
-Crispiness is usually "under" fryer comparable
-Takes often 10-15 minutes + warm up

Pre-Made Mozz Sticks in THIS Air Fryer:
-Absolutely hits the point on crispiness. The outside looks like it was in a deep fryer
-Took < 10 minutes before cheese started to oooze
-Taste: Now here's where it's so-so. Does it taste better then when from convection oven? Yes. Does it taste like it came out of a fryer? No. Is it somewhere in between? Yes. How much? Well, I'd say from a crispiness taste, it is on the mark, but you are certainly not going to bite into the cheese and taste the oozy-oily taste. Ooozy, yes, but you're not going to get an oily taste your used to with fried foods.

Overall: Undecided. This thing is bulky from a storage perspective and not sure i have room for yet another appliance.

I am trying out some previously oven cooked McCain French fries which are being heated again. Usually I am pretty happy with how these come out in the toaster oven, so lets see if they are any better in the air fryer.

Summary: It's not magic, its a small convection oven that has the ability to circulate air better and get under the food. It is quicker and crunchier. But it's not fried food.

post above mine doesn't sound like a time saver from the oven though,...but ill try some mozz sticks and see how it comes out. in the toaster convection oven they still taste a bit bland...hoping for a bit of that "fried" taste

Yea if you have a convection toaster oven idk how much more benefit you will get from an air fryer. It's just a small convection oven

but does the small amount of oil help make it taste like a fried food ? convection can give you crispiness, but rarely gives you the oil taste that one comes to know from fried food

If I didn't have a Breville convection oven, I'd be more tempted. Still tempted though.

I am in the same situation and cant decide if I should get an air fryer...

The problem I have with the convection toaster oven is that food only gets crispy on the top side. The side against the pan still feels "baked" instead of fried. The basket in air fryers seems like it might eliminate that problem but I'm not really sure.
