This is a good starter piano and is the entry point for the Yamahas. The main requirement for any digital piano is weighted keys. Not all weighted keys are equal and some models from cheaper brands are kinda stretching the truth when they call their keys weighted but this models is satisfactory.

If you spend more money for the P115/P125 what you get is better sound quality but the same key feel. The P121 is the same as the P125 but with 76 keys instead of 88. I would only get that if space was really critical. Through headphones all of these pianos will sound quite similar(the other models have slightly updated piano samples do sound SLIGHTLY more natural when doing a Pepsi challenge but not by a lot) and feel the same. The P121/P125 have improved speakers, which apparently make it a lot louder than the P45/P115.

I am an adult who just started to learn piano. I bought a non-weighted 61 key piano and within 2 months had outgrown it and upgraded to a P115 which I love. 6 months later I am eyeing more expensive models but higher models from the P115 at my skill level are a luxury not a necessity.

The P45 will last you a number of years, but if your kid sticks to learning, they will out grow it. Good news is the Yamaha digital pianos have INSANE resale value. People typically list them for 75% of retail 5-10 years down the line. So The P45 is a great place to start, I would avoid the Williams model that gets posted a lot for cheap. Get a P125 if you feel like splurging but honestly your kid could outgrow that too(which is a good thing!).

On the Casio side of things the PX160 and PX360 are of similar caliber to these two Yamahas. There is a bit of a Coke vs Pepsi thing with Yamaha and Casio with Yamaha being more 'bright' sounding and the Casio a bit more mellow (IMO). Both are great and you'd be happy with either.

Really good deal. I got the similar Casio CDP-235 package from Costco last year for $325 or I'd be all over this.

The deals probably aren't going to get better than this this year. Grab it while you can.

According to one of the reviews, this has been as low as $299 during a previous BF promo. Not sure if it came with the stand and seat though.

I haven't tried it, but if you scroll down the page, there is a link that says "Speak with an Amazon Harmony associate to learn more and for discount codes on most brands excluding Bose"

If you click the link, you can put in your number for them to call you, or you can call them at 866-216-1072

I've seen previous comments on SD where people have received extra discount calling in.
