Good deal for the specs. The Sony phones have always been "really nice except" in my opinion. I bought the XZ1 and really liked it, *except* that the fingerprint scanner didn't work with the US ROM (although Sony allows bootloader unlocking so there are ways around that).

This one and the XZ3 are really nice *except* they ditched the headphone jack (I know I know, everyone is) and the camera is not great, which is very odd considering Sony makes excellent cameras (and the sensors in most other phones).

I'd buy this if it had a headphone jack. Alas, the search for a flagship with a headphone jack and near-stock Android continues. Maybe a OnePlus 6 if the price drops now that the 6T is available.

Yes, Sony's specifications say "You should not put the device completely underwater; or expose it to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water, or liquids such as drinks. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The device has been tested under Ingress Protection rating IP65/68."

That's why 36 hours in 5ft of saltwater is pretty impressive. I didn't do it intentionally.

I purchased the xz2 compact version of this phone while on vacation in Hawaii after swimming with my 4 year old sony phone. Sure enough the next day I went swimming in the ocean with the new xz2 compact and it fell out of my pocket. It was found and returned 36 HOURS later in about 5ft of water in the ocean. Writing this on it now, months later.
The regular xz2 is massive which is why I got the compact. I've had zero issues. One "gotcha" on these phones is they took away the headphone jack like apple. At first I was angry but I haven't missed it. It comes with a usb-headphone adapter.

Water resistance ratings are for fresh water. I think the salt water damageds the grommets or whatever companies normally use for the protection. I think their warranties exclude salt water damage.
