Unless you want the echo dot, you can get it at Lowe's for $119AC and pay with GC purchased with 10% off like at Samsung pay.
If you have a $25 off Staples coupon, you can get it at $115 there too.

These are both good deals along with the Costco price of the Ecobee 3 Lite with 2 sensors for $169. I am glad to see other deals since this seems to be the new low price at Costco.

I believe Costco had the lite on sale for $149 a couple months ago.

Echo dot retails for $49.99 on Amazon. Plus I was able to take $75 off (instant rebate by power company SDGE).

Echo dot does not really worth $50. It will be on sale at $24 next week starting tomorrow. I just ordered my Ecobee 3 lite from Lowe's and my final cost is less than $36 after $75 rebate from my utility company too.

Just click on the rebate link on BestBuy page. You will be taken to SDGE website where you have to enter your details. Then a coupon code will be generated that can be instantly applied to your BestBuy order

Why is that? Why do you prefer the Ecobee?

From what I recall, it's like Android (Ecobee) vs iPhone (Nest). They both work well, one is arguably prettier and simpler to use, the other offers much more in depth configuration and features. I own the Ecobee (a 4 and a 3), I appreciate all the config options and data analysis their website does. Friend has the Nest and he likes the simplicity/appearance.

If you had to get one for your mom and dad, which one would you install for them? The Ecobee3 Lite, the Ecobee4 or Nest (is it E or V3?)

I need something super simple for them but it also should have a "temp hold" option.

It's for a 2 zone system with 1 HVAC unit outside. One thermostat upstairs literally just for a large gameroom, and another thermostat downstairs for 4 bedrooms, etc.
