Found this 2-pack of levels at Home Depot the other night. 4' and 2' for $19.88! Seemed like a good price to me since a 4' level alone is $27.

You should go see a doctor immediately. Anything over 9" isn't normal. Fortunately for me I'm very far away from that thus very healthy.. very very very far away.

Is Empire a good brand for levels? Is the whole thing made of metal? Would like to replace my cheap plastic levels with something more accurate and longer lasting.

yes. i donate/give away all those plastic ones. it's like plastic squares, they never last more than a few drops or when somethign drops ON them (they crack). especially outdoors in the cold. aluminum is great and the empire levels have always been rock solid for us.

I see it's got a lifetime warranty. Anyone ever returned one to Empire? Will they replace one that has gone out of level without hassle?

Per their warranty terms http://www.empirelevel.com/warranty.php
you can return it to the place of purchase. How HD handles that is unknown to me.

Empire is a solid level. If you are in the market, buy these. I have older magnetic versions of these levels and trust them more than any of the other levels I own.

Don't know about how they are about the warranty though. Haven't abused mine bad enough to necessitate a return.

Concerning returns, I will never own a Swanson level again. I had three of their levels with magnets that fell out or came out of place. Only way to get them to even consider a replacement was to return it to them by mail and hope for the best. They didn't offer any help with the cost of mailing so I threw the levels away.

I have a 48" Johnson, otherwise I'd be in.

I think these are made in US aren't they? If so a definite purchase.
