I'm not defending newegg, but Amazon is sleazy, and their prices usually suck. The only reason they're dropping the price on the 500gb is to try to take sales from newegg. Their other prices on 1TB, 2TB, etc are crap. and they're not even pretending to compete.

unless all you people want amazon to be the only store you can buy from in the future where you'll pay their crap prices, I'd suggest buying drives (actually everything you can) elsewhere. When amazon is the only place left, there will be no competition and you'll be screwed every time... Personally, I'd like to see amazon broken up......
I agree. Amazon is willing to operate at a loss in order to push competitors out of business. Doesn't mean I won't ever buy from them, but I often try to buy from someone else if at all possible.

That being said, about the OP, I was originally going to buy this drive for $75 from Samsung next week, but with this, I'm thinking I might wait till actual black friday to see if anything drops to 70 or less.

These will be near $50 in a few months if they're right about the projected NAND and DRAM price crash.
These will be about $18 in three years.

Sleazy for matching prices? Sounds to me you're more anti-Amazon than anything. PM is a common tactic that many, many stores use.

Will this work on 2011 MacBook Pro? Would nvme work on the 2011 and would it be worth the price difference?
Yes, it will work in a 2011 MacBook. Just keep in mind, it's 7mm so it might be thinner than your current one. I'm pretty sure nvme wasn't around back then so I'm confident it won't work.

Well, I ordered two of them from Newegg yesterday at 79.99, contacted customer service (after sitting in queue through 80 people) and they will only Price Match one of them down to the 72.99 price point. Now I remember why I stopped shopping at Newegg.

Not anti-Amazon, but unless Amazon is selling at lower price point than competitor, it doesn't need any help. Like the other poster mentioned, only reason you see same price on Amazon is because its low somewhere else. Helping any big business when lower competitor has same value is just asking for monopoly sooner or later.

This is a common business tactic. Retail stores literally have employees who visit other stores to scan items to match prices. Newegg USED to be small when they first started, they used similar tactics to put their small business competitors out of business. At least Amazon has good customer service, something that can't be said for Newegg.

That's the same problem most retail businesses are facing these days. Well said.
