1. Does it require the Arlo Camera system to work?

2. Is there a monthly fee?

seems like a great addition to an Arlo Camera at the door

note - this requires an Arlo Pro base. you cannot just install this and expect to have 2-way audio door bell

1) requires an Arlo Pro Base station, so yes

2) No, it stores audio on basic plan like video (7 days worth)

Just adding my experience with it, it uses 2-AA batteries. I installed it and batteries lasted 9 days before it said it was at 0%, they claim it should last at least 1 yr. And my base station is nearby. Decided to return and go back to ring.

Website doesn't specify Pro base. I assume regular base will work also?

and this would require the Arlo CHIME (or a regular chime) to work too correct? I do not have a chime in my house right now.

Since you don't have an existing chime---the Arlo Chime would enable you to put a chime anywhere you have a power outlet (and suitably strong WiFi for the Chime to communicate with your Arlo base station). Is it necessary/mandatory? No, because Arlo will alert you via your smartphone everytime the bell gets pushed. But personally I like hearing a chime also, because I don't always have my phone on my person when I'm at home.

So it works like this---Visitor pushes Arlo doorbell. Arlo chime (if you've installed one) rings in your house. Simultaneously you get an alert on your phone that someone is ringing your doorbell. So even if you're not home, you get the alert, and you can talk with that person via the doorbell's speaker. And if you have an Arlo camera outside, you can see them also.

I purchased an Arlo Q Plus and very disappointed that there's a huge lag in the live view. Apparently the video streams from the Arlo Q to Netgear's servers and then finally your phone.

Does this lag exist in the Arlo cameras that have base stations? Or does the phone connect to the base station for video/audio?

I'm considering the Arlo Pro's in of course, this doorbell if there's no lag. Otherwise would stick with the other names.

Thanks!

Hi FoDaLey,

This is a typical cloud camera data flow design...

With a good on-premise camera you should be able to connect to your WiFi access point and cut out the additional time for the packets to go to your ISP and to Cloud Server and somehow to your phone / mobile device.

Yes, but I think people refer to Pro base because it doesn't seem you can buy a standard base anymore.
