PSA - 50 Gb hotspot free on all sprint plans through "holiday season"

+8 Deal Score
10,177 Views
Sprint's offering free hotspot access (50 Gb total use) on ALL lines, including the BYOD lines that don't any longer have hotspot access. All you need to do is reset carrier settings/download the new carrier settings and then enable hotspot access. It will go away "after the holidays" but they didn't give me an exact date.

I activated this on two of my lines. Checked with chat and my understanding was you get 50gb per month per line. They implied that this will continue until you remove it from your account, not just through "the holidays".

What have others heard from Sprint on this?

it's active now; i activated it on my BYOD plan which i activated YESTERDAY.

at first, when i inserted the sprint sim into my phone and hit ##UPDATE#, it started updating carrier settings; then i did a backup and RESTORE of my iphone, and then when i did that, the mobile hotspot was suddenly active. before i did this, the mobile hotspot option was NOT showing.

they told me that it was 50 gb TOTAL or until the holiday season was up, whichever was first, but there seems to be a lot of confusion, as it isn't "public" yet.

Sprint!

Let's get started. How can I help you today?
You: question regarding the 50 gb holiday hotspot promotion
Sprint: OK. Let's get started!
Sprint: OK – let's talk about hotspots! What would you like to do?
Sprint: Something else? No problem.
Sprint: Let me transfer you to a specialist for more help.
Sprint has transferred your chat to a specialist for more help.
Agent Madison enters chat
You: is that 50gb per month or 50gb until the end of december/holiday season?
Madison: hello:-)
Madison: I'll be glad to help you.
Madison: Sure. Let me check the details for you.
Madison: Is this the number XXX-XXX-XXXX, associated with your account ?
You: its one of them
Madison: Great!
Madison: Just a moment
You: happy thanksgiving if u are in the us
Madison: Thanks :-)
Madison: Did you received any email
You: no
You: am i supposed to receive an email?
You: i heard about the 50gb when i called to sign up yesterday
You: but they said it's a holiday promotion
Madison: Thats correct !
You: and i'm trying to figure out if it's only until the holidays are over
You: and then the hotspot goes away
You: or if once you add it you get to keep it
Madison: You will receive it from our promotion team
You: even after the holidays
You: do you have more specifics of the promo since i didn't get any email as i just joined yesterday?
You: technically 11/20/18
You: like what are the terms and is it a permanent hotspot
You: is it 50 gb PER month
You: or 50 gb TOTAL until dec 31?
You: because it will make a difference on whether i port out my last phone line to sprint or not
You: if it's only temporary then i'm going to keep paying tmobile for my line which has hotspot
Madison: Just a moment
You: but if it's a permanent 50 gb hotspot per month then i'll switch
Madison: I have checked and this is only for 1 bill cycle and customers are receiving emails
Madison: So, if you are eligible you will also receive this offer in few days
You: ok
Madison: Thanks
You: only one bill cycle so it goes away in december, correct?
You: rather the end of december
Madison: Thats correct !
You: ok thanks
Madison: You're welcome

Just a data point, I got a different answer from Sprint chat. They said no expiration to the 50GB per month. So I guess we just have to see what happens in January.

You : Yes, I want to find out if it a one time allotment of 50GB or it renews, what happens when the 50GB is used up if one time and if it can also be added to the other phones on the account for free. The primary phone it would likely be used on is XXX-XXX-XXXX
al625810 : I see, I can definitely check that information that you where asking, let me just review the account for you.
agent : I can get the information for you in the next few minutes. Will that be alright?
You : Yes, I'll wait
agent : Thank you for waiting.
al625810 : As i review the account, the line ending in XXXX and XXXX got this mobile hotspot.
You : OK is it a one time allotment? How long can it be used?
al625810 : This 50gb mobile hotspot is renewable every month, however if you consume all the 50gb, your 4GLTE will be down to 2-3g.
al625810 : As I check also, there is no expiration on this feature.
al625810 : You can use all you want.
You : OK thanks. The 50GB is shared across all the devices correct, not 50GB per device?
al625810 : Yes that is correct.
You : Is the 50GB cap before the data slows down just mobile hot spot data or does it also include data used by the phone directly as well?
al625810 : Yes, goes as well with mobile data and mobile hotspot.
You : OK, so once we use 50GB of data between all the devices, including the hot spot, the data for everything will slow down, correct?
al625810 : I suggest try alternate usage of your mobile hotspot, so that you can maximize your mobile data and mobile hotspot.
You : What is alternate usage of the hotspot? I'm not too concerned about going over the 50GB limit
al625810 : What am trying to say is, when you use your mobile hotspot on line ending XXXX, try off the mobile hotspot of the XXXX.
al625810 : 50gb is a lot.
al625810 : So that you maximize all you data and hotspot.
You : OK so if XXXX has used all 50GB, XXXX would still have 50 available?
al625810 : Yes, that is correct.
al625810 : We are giving customers more data and more value in their plans. That means more ability to connect devices on the go when traveling for the holidays!
al625810 : Mobile Hotspot lets you connect other devices like tablets and laptops to the internet, using your phone.
al625810 : Sprint is saying thank you to customers for their loyalty.
You : OK thanks, I don't have to do anything to keep the mobile hotspot on the plan, correct? I would just need to go into my account and remove it if I no longer wanted it. Is that right?
al625810 : Specially like you.
al625810 : Because here in sprint we value our loyal costumers.
al625810 : And I would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank you" for choosing as your wireless provider.
al625810 : We do appreciate your with business us, eventho where not perfect company.
You : I have been with Sprint a long time and am satisfied with it. Is there anything I need to do to keep the mobile hotspot on my account? I'm guessing it stays there until I remove it, correct?
al625810 : Exactly!
al625810 : You can use it for as long as you want.

So it looks like, depending on your plan, it won't end after "the holidays"

Hmm... anyone else with BYOD plan got this working? I logged in to my account and was NOT able to add it myself. No Hotspot feature is listed as choices. I rebooted my phone and did the UPDATE thing and nothing shows up. I will try Sprint Chat now and see if they can add it...
