Dewalt 3-Piece Set [homedepot.com]

Found this in front of my local store on a handwritten sign this morning. It is unavailable online. The only similar deal online is for $109 and it includes the lesser DS280.

It's a good savings if you can find it. The individual pieces alone total $150 See here. [homedepot.com]. I am not sure what the normal price is on this or if it is a normal package.

YMMV

The black Friday deal was that set at $98. It's in the advertisement.

It runs from 11/22-12/5 while supplies last.

Maybe order the three pieces individually at your local store then have customer service return and purchase together under this SKU when you go to pick up? Seems like it would work.

Yeah, I see that now. I wonder why it was handwritten at my store and why it shows as not sold in stores or online on the website. The guy had trouble ringing it up.

It was available on line but sold out virtually instantly.

They have trouble ringing it up because they can't figure out they must scan all 3 case skus and discount is taken automatically. Also if you buy more than one set you must ring up separately or it won't work.

What does YMMV mean?

I've seen it on deals that are in-store only but cannot piece together the acronym. Thanks all

I bought a set on Black Friday but haven't decided if I'm going to keep it. The quality control on these units seems pretty low – I had to piece together several different ones from my store to find a set where everything was in working order (waterproof seals were messed up on one, one of the tray inserts on another wasn't molded properly and didn't seat).

The main reason why I'm considering returning these are the side latches that lock the separate units together. It's a truly terrible design. It literally hurts your fingers when you have to open and close them. The Milwaukee set HD was selling had the best latches (albeit twice the price), but even the Ridgid set had better interlocking latches than the Dewalt (the Dewalt set is otherwise much better).

Lastly, in the top (smallest) box, there are a couple yellow organizers that open up to hold small parts. They're made out of plastic and it's very poorly designed. By default, they are attached to the lid of the box. You're supposed to detach them from the lid, fold them down into the base, and then open the compartments. This isn't immediately obvious though because they will fold down while still attached to the lid. The problem is the plastic has to flex unnaturally and creates wear that will eventually cause it to break. I could tell other customers were confused by this as well because almost every box I opened showed signs of this wear.

If you can use these boxes to their maximum effectiveness, I think this is a good deal for you. If not, you're better off spending the $100 on other units that are better suited to your needs.

Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps.

It's good enough to do the job for most people. If it's mostly staying in/around the house, it is more than capable enough. I'd say $98 is about what is worth.

If you don't mind spending a bit more, you can check out the Milwaukee Packout, which a lot of people like because of its ruggedness and the nice layout of the toolboxes (trays don't block access to tools at the bottom of the boxes, so you don't have to take out the trays). Also the Packout's wheels are more flush with the edge of the boxes, which makes it easier to store against a wall. = $199 at ACME tools: https://slickdeals.net/f/12189124

Or you can go with Dewalt's higher end Toughsystem based on the DS carrier, which is my favorite because you don't have to unstack the top toolboxes to get to the toolboxes on the bottom, and the carrier doubles as a dolly/hand truck. = $233 at ACME Tools with free headlamp: https://slickdeals.net/f/12360700

There is a better deal on the Tstak system by dewalt at HD. $10 of $50. For a triple piece starter set. It's around 60 bucks shipped.

I bought 7 pieces. Triple set, and two separate orders for two boxes. You can multi use the discount!

Went with the tstak as its way more modular and customizable. The tough system is kind of getting phased out.

I got this same set a few months ago for $130. Great price for $98 if you can get one. YMMV.
