no one knows when promotion will expire. limited time.

quick summary:
the intent of this promotion was to get people to trade in older iphones towards purchase of a new iphone
however.

~11/27/18 to 12/20/18
apple was giving upto 2x on trade in without requiring purchase of anything
there was no limit
so for a iphone 6s, u would get $200 in a gift card.
with the metro deal, people would get 4 x 6s from metro for $160.
then trade them into apple for 4 x $200 gift card ($800)
some people did this multiple times

~12/20/18 after seeing the abuse apple changed the promo to:
(note for iphone 6s only below numbers apply)
$200 for a trade in with purchase today
$200 for a trade in of a previous purchase
$100 for a trade in gift card
some apple store require a purchase of a iphone xs,,xs max, xr
some apple store will allow on the above as well as iwatch /ipad
no one knows what your apple store will require, so best to go and find out for yourself

As of 5/14/2019
Apple has lowered ALL of the Extra Credit on all trade in towards a new iphone, lowering to -$50 on each iphone model trade in. Check out the lower values on the apple website. :-(

Not that bad. $250 is more than I could get for my 32gb iPhone 7 after fees, etc.

$200 back for an iPhone 6s with a shitty battery and a broken GPS (that Apple STILL refuses to acknowledge is a thing) isn't terrible.

Appears to work on buying an iPhone 8 as well--not just XS/XR
I have the same gps problem on iphone 6 and has been driving me nuts since I couldn't find any way to fix it

I rather sell off old iPhone in fb marketplace or craiglist and buy iphone X or Samsung s9 around $500.

This deal might fly with regular folks, but there are people who will buy portable number >> open metropcs >> pay for iPhone 6s, and get earpod >> buy the 3rd party unlock >> sell off the iphone 6s

Just so you can get free earpod... so for those people I guess this deal is off..

What if you're not looking for a new line? I can't find deals on an iPhone 8 anywhere that don't involve new line activation.
They had some deals over the weekend. I was going to get an iPhone 8 at Target with $150 gift card but then Best Buy matched Target's $250 gift card for the XS so I went with that. Maybe similar deals will pop up as we get closer to Christmas.

I hate that a lot of these deals for phones require a new line. Annoying.

Yeah, if you could trade in multiple phones it would be slick.

It does seem to work for the 7 and 8 too.
An Apple rep told me that the trade-in bonus was good on one trade-in device only. That was a bummer because we had a 6 and a 6s to trade. But still a good deal getting $200 for our 6s and a new XR for $600 for the 128gb.

We wanted an unlocked phone with no ties to any carrier so we're free to jump around to anybody with the best service deal. Every deal we could find over the holidays tied us to a carrier or had too many hoops for us to jump through. Thanks OP!

$250 For iPhone 6s plus sounds ok. That's roughly the price I bought it from. Looking to get rid of my 16GB iPhone (where safari takes up 1.5GB and growing with all cache clear) and upgrading to a bigger one.

You will get less for it.
Bring it into an Apple store of just take the chance if you are buying online (describe the phone accurately and all the text says they have to receive it and value it, so what you see may not be what you get).

I would do the trade in for a "refund" because your cc should still honor an extra year warranty vs trading in for a gift card and using that to purchase the new iPhone.

I have 2 Iphone 6 .. Can I trade both in for 300$ in total trade in and buy a XS ??

this is exactly the question I have. want to trade in 2. I think at worst, we may be able to trade in one for the promo price and one for the regular price.

Anyone know how this would affect the return policy? For instance, if I trade in a 6s to buy an XR as a gift but then the person doesn't want it and I go to return it, what would happen? I assume they wouldn't refund me $750. Maybe $550 and a $200 store credit?

Additional credit value offer for a limited time only; new iPhone purchase required.

So, you can't just keep the GC and use it later for say an ipad or something else? you have to buy a new phone from apple store?

I assume it has to work like that. either that or they give you full 750$ gift card. not sure if there is a restocking fee either.
