no one knows when promotion will expire. limited time.

quick summary:
the intent of this promotion was to get people to trade in older iphones towards purchase of a new iphone
however.

~11/27/18 to 12/20/18
apple was giving upto 2x on trade in without requiring purchase of anything
there was no limit
so for a iphone 6s, u would get $200 in a gift card.
with the metro deal, people would get 4 x 6s from metro for $160.
then trade them into apple for 4 x $200 gift card ($800)
some people did this multiple times

~12/20/18 after seeing the abuse apple changed the promo to:
(note for iphone 6s only below numbers apply)
$200 for a trade in with purchase today
$200 for a trade in of a previous purchase
$100 for a trade in gift card
some apple store require a purchase of a iphone xs,,xs max, xr
some apple store will allow on the above as well as iwatch /ipad
no one knows what your apple store will require, so best to go and find out for yourself

As of 5/14/2019
Apple has lowered ALL of the Extra Credit on all trade in towards a new iphone, lowering to -$50 on each iphone model trade in. Check out the lower values on the apple website. :-(

I assume it has to work like that. either that or they give you full 750$ gift card. not sure if there is a restocking fee either.
Apple has restock fee?

Not that great of a deal unless you missed all the Black Friday deals. I bought my XR and got a $250 Costco gift card without waiting in a line. Then I sold my iPhone 6 for $150. That's $400 vs trading in your phone to Apple for a mere $150. Walmart had an even better deal if you were willing to deal with a crowd.

edit: this is a good deal if you're phone is bad and not worth much anymore, but problem is that Apple will likely not have great deals on their own phones like other retailers do with gift cards and such things
Where did you sell your iPhone 6 for $150. i cant seem to find any place offering more than $75.

Where did you sell your iPhone 6 that you got $150? eBay?

Mine is a 64gb iPhone and recently had battery replaced. If I can sell for $150 somewhere I'd bite

So I have an iPhone 7. If I walk into an apple store will they give me a $250 gift card for that or they are going to make me buy a phone right there on the spot?
You can opt for gift card and decide to purchase later

You have to start buying a phone first and then trade in during that process.

I assume you'd have to buy a new phone. They aren't giving the promotional gift card amount without a purchase. This is how it is online at lease. If you just do a trade in you get the normal credit.

What GPS problem? Not being sarcastic, really want to know as I have a 6S and have never experienced any GPS issues as such.

Since Apple has been replacing batteries on old phones for $29 due to their slowing down, now Apple wants to bribe extra $50 to $100 people to buy more expensive phonesSmilie

Should I choose a trade-in refund or an Apple Store Gift Card?

It depends on where and when you make a purchase.
If you're ready to buy a new product at an Apple Store, you can bring your old device with you. If it's eligible for trade-in, we'll apply an instant credit at the time of purchase. The only exception is that we don't currently accept Mac trade-ins in the Apple Store.
If you're ready to buy a new Apple product online (apple.com or the Apple Store app), you can add a trade-in and get a refund back on your new purchase, once we receive and verify its condition.
If you're not ready to make a purchase, you can trade in your old device online for an Apple Store Gift Card via email that you can apply to any future Apple purchase.
And no matter how you use Apple GiveBack, if your device has no trade-in value, you can always recycle it responsibly for free.
