Single channel memory, throttles like crazy due to power limitations. Lenovo should be ashamed at how they gimped this chip - gives Ryzen a bad name.

Yes, it's a single sodimm socket with 16gb max. So, no dual channel. Quite unusual as their 5 series ryzen laptops at least have 4gb soldered and a sodimm socket so you could get dual channel at 8gb's.

Such a weird cost saving choice.

Trying to figure out how this compares to typical Intel i7-8550 based Ultrabooks.

Can anybody help me decide this Ultrabook against Intel-based ones? I do want a lighter laptop than the 4-5 lb ones and ideally those with 16GB DDR4 for video/photo editing and 512GB PCIe/NVMe SSD storage.

Get the i7 unless you are planning on gaming.

Thanks max1001. I was thinking that my kid could play Fortnite or other similar capability games. I do think that the integrated Intel graphics 620 isn't quite capable for even Fortnite (correct?). Would the Vega do any better?

Vega is much much better. Very capable of playing Fortnite and Overwatch

I've heard that the problem with this is that its single channel which cripples the vega. It would probably be the best ryzen laptop if it was dual channel.

Probably one of the worst Ryzen laptops on market. Only supports single channel memory.
