I debated between this one and the newer model that has the zero m tech and ended up going for the newer one from bed bath and beyond with their 20% coupon for new customers. It came to $250 with taxes, but 5% cash back from the CC and 4% from one of those rebates sites helped make the decision.

Is this the best vacuum for $200? I have a 10 year old Dyson animal that's on my last nerve. Leaves streaks of dirt in the carpet on every pass.

Definitely, they just released a set of 2nd generation Apex models, which is probably why this one is 50% off (1st generation).

I think the Shark NV803 from Ebay for $155 is a better deal especially if you can use the coupon code for Ebay that is floating around here today with the purchase.

What is the difference between the one you suggest vs this one? What NV number is this vacuum? The Shark vacuums are quite confusing.

The Shark at Home Depot is the AX952. The one on Ebay is the NV803. I agree, Sharks are confusing. I think the difference is the one at HD is 2-lbs heavier and has different attachments. The most notable attachment difference for me is the wand that cleans under appliances does not come with the one from HD. Also the HD model has a larger collection canister so you wont have to dump it out as much. Although I posted this deal, and think it is a good one, I still purchased the one from Ebay.

I did some digging. NV803 is pretty old. the AX900 series are newer, and the AZ1000 series are newer still.

The only difference I can see between the AX and the AZ is on the AZ the rollers self-clean somehow.

The Self-cleaning is through a rubberized edge after the brush and then a comb the rubberized edge will not allow the hair to tightly wrap around the brush and then the comb would remove/loosen the hair from the brush. This is what I could find from a picture on the website. I am uncertain on how effective it is and whether after every run one has to take the loosened hair off the comb/brush or its okay to have it their. But at least it is a good design to have in the vacuum especially if you have pets or long haired girls/women at home.
