For those wondering, these have two memory banks and can be upgraded to 32 GB max.

Too bad these aren't available on Dell.com for the Amex cashback.

I got the Costco HP i3 for $315 during BF

https://www.costco.com/HP-14-Lapt...61207.html

If I were to switch - it'd be for double the ram, ssd space, touch screen, and a better processor. Does the price difference uphold the upgrades?

I too have the i3 and debating.... if you want to save more money for value, then go with i5.. since i7 is only about 15% faster.

Unfortunately, the nearest Micro Center is 350+ miles away from me. Are you going to keep HP? I might keep mine and I've been skimming the thread to up my ram and ssd, but I'm not that very erudate in comps. Do you have any recommendations? Would this ssd be compatible to fit inside?

My recommendation.. if you are looking to buy or trade out your i3 in the next 2-3 years ,, keep the i3 and upgrade another 4gb ram for $30 bucks = total of 8gb ram.

If you need storage,, buy an external drive. Do all your edits from the m.2 and transfer over.

You can also add the ssd, but you have to buy the brackets and wire/connector which cost more. Save money from the external drive, because two years from now ssd price will drop more in time. By then i5 will be at this i3 price, when i9 comes out 😄

Basic money for value
I3 = 3 years
I5 = 5 years
I7 = 7 years

When you buy an i7, do you plan to keep for 7 years? Nahhh
===============

Am I going to keep the i3?? Hmm.. i5 looks good since I was looking for a price of 400-500. But this one is 2-1, plus the 13" for traveling and i5 for video editing,, hard debate right now... but I would have to keep the i5 for at least 3-4 to make sense.

Ok. That's some sound advice. I figured I'd get an ssd with Windows update taking up so much space with just 128gb. But getting an external and with price drops works out too. Thanks for info! +rep

Thanks, if you are worried about the windows update and not being able to have more from your main drive... you can upgrade this as main driver for the i3: 250GB and sell your 128gb? Do more research on how to copy / bootup windows recover to transfer your drives over. They have it on the i3 Costco thread.

I'm pretty sure this is the exact laptop I purchased a year ago. I want to express my dismay with my dell purchase. I have never been required to keep a warranty active on a laptop to receive updates from my vendor (specifically ACER and ASUS and APPLE). I have been informed that 1 year after the purchase that I now have to pay at least $50 a year to have my automatic updates. Further, dell calls me to get this support money asking that I pay $169 for onsite service. I get her down to $4 a month for basic service and she charges me $4.92. That is not $4 a month. That is closer to $5. Needless to say this is very frustrating. And I am currently in the market for another laptop for my son.

Use caution. Some models are different.

Watch for this/similar model when on sale from Microsoft Store. You may want the model with styus/Windows Ink support. Many folks were disappointed with having purchased the wrong model. Two models with same resolution, but only one screen can use the stylus.

I don't know about this one.
