I don't understand phones. If i buy upfront for $255, can it be unlocked later if I switch carriers down the line?

Carriers are not in the business to sell you a $500 phone for $255 so you can immediately unlock it and leave. They have to retain you and give you the money back over 24-30 payments. You can pay off the phone in full for $650~, get it unlocked after 60 days, and then continue to receive the bill credits over the next two years.

This is dumb if anybody want an S8 when the S9 is equally cheap
Can you please post a link to a Galaxy S9 for $255? If so it will be an explosive Front Page deal, guaranteed.

What are people smoking on this site. 355$ Samsung S8 from Walmart was a hit just few weeks ago.....

254$ for last years flagship phone without any contracts. Hell ya.....I'll have one.....people are selling used Samsung S8 for more price. It is instant credit and you can have it shipped to your home for free.

Where do you get no contract? It's says with new line or upgrade. You can't just walk in, pay $255 plus tax and walk out. $255 is only for "Activate Today" which means credit check, new line fee, and pay $255. The $355 is for "Activate later". Essentially, $255 with a new line today, or $355 if you have a current line and wanna pop a SIM card in.

For people like me who are already on att, you can add a line (my plan does not charge anything to add a line), pay 255+tax, walk out, call att and cancel the new line.....phone is yours

and how do you unlock it ?

I am not questioning your method, but just want to buy a Galaxy S8 phone that I can use on the carriers I choose. I don't want to buy from ebay and I knew walmart $299 -$349.99 is just wild goose chase with very low probability.

What is the best price for a new S8, 64GB unlocked and where I might find it?

Thanks in advance
