I feel like running a brushed quadcopter for 15min, without a break, would lead to a greatly shortened lifespan for the motors.

Bizarrely small number of YouTube videos, out there. Since all the reviews seem to be garbage(the reviews, not the toy), here's something with actual flight:

Picture looks pretty choppy, would you recommend this drone as a good starter? Not willing to spend $350 on a DJI Spark and the 13 year old kid crashes it or decides he is not in to it.

Unfortunately, choppy picture is about all you'll find in this class. If you want one with similar abilities to this, the Syma x8sw is a great first quadcopter.

If you don't need the FPV, it's hard to go wrong with a Syma X5C-1; I bought mine used and have been flying and crashing it for a few years, now.

If you want to go even less expensive to test the waters, the urlhasbeenblocked E011 is a tiny, invincible little quadcopter. Gentle enough to fly indoors, but fast enough to fly outdoors with wind. Thanks to its potential as a modded FPV flyer, there's a lot of community support.

Best of luck with your future flying!

I see a new slickdeal where amazon has the x8sw for $52. Is that the best starter drone for the price?

Thanks for the reply. Went with the one in the op, since it comes with the controller. Im gifting it, if he learns to use it well I'll gladly get it a DJI or whatever he wants.

It's a great starter, go for it. Just make sure you buy a couple extra batteries and give your quadcopter 5-10min cooldown time between flights. It'll make your motors last a LOT longer. Have fun!
