Got one. Was going to buy just the smart plug but saw this deal. Getting the camera really for about $55 if you consider the smart plug is about $15. Pretty good deal. Thanks op!

Some reviews state that this camera records in increments of 3 minutes and after the 3 minutes the camera will not begin recording again for like 20-25 seconds.. Can anyone confirm?

Good deal if you need or want both items. I just got the camera last week. So far it seems to do what it says and build quality seems good (base is a nice heavy metal). If you already have the Kasa app the setup is dead simple. Basically just plug it in. Alerts come in on the app fine. Seems to lose connection temporarily at times but could just be my wifi.

Currently have it pointed outside a window to keep an eye on my tenants and driveway. Unfortunately the night vision (as with all night vision) won't work through a window due to the glare kicking back (but you can turn nightvision off). I have an outside porch light that provides enough illumination to see what I need though. I may buy the outside version to add on.

cannot confirm the 3 minute increment. From what I can tell this doesn't record 24/7. It only records when there is motion or sound or you manually go into the app and start recording the live view but you're capped on data, plans are here https://www.tp-link.com/us/kasacare/

Got two of these from a deal a couple months back. I was debating returning my Nest cams (indoor) and going with these, because I could get 2 of these for the price of a single Nest cam. I ended up keeping the Nests though and returning the Kasa Cams.
My biggest complaints were:
  • No 24/7 recording. You get clips, but you really have to trust that the camera caught something and recorded it when you're looking for a specific event. Excellent for live monitoring though.
  • Audio feedback. There was a constant whining/buzzing coming from the unit, which could be heard in the audio. I had a Nest in the same place before, and never had that issue.
In all honesty, they were really solid cameras, but just not quite as solid as the Nest cam. In terms of video and build quality, they are virtually identical. This definitely isn't a bad product by any means, this is a great price, and the bonus smart plug makes this an even sweeter deal. I've picked up 2 of those so far and absolutely love them. The Kasa app is also really slick, so there's another pro for you.

I have both the kasa indoor cam and the nest outdoor cam. While the kasa cam records for a short duration when it detects motion and/or sound, the nest cam only provides a snapshot of the area. Notice I have no subscription for either one. Thus the kasa app works perfectly fine for me. The kasa app also has a better UI imo and better schedule options.

Do people buy subscriptions for security cams?

Can you use the camera as a motion sensor to turn on/off kasa switches??
