I have this with the same Xfinity 250 plan. With my old modem I got about 175mb down. With this it went up to about 280mb.

If you plan on having 100- 300 Mbps down and around 20Mbps up for the foreseeable 2 years or so you're fine with this. If you're in a metropolitan area, like mine, where your ISP has already deployed gig speeds or anything over 500 Mbps over RF (HFC network) definitely go with a Docsis 3.1 modem for the higher channel bonding capabilities. This will have a direct impact on throughput. Basically, what I'm trying to say, is that this modem is not "future proof" in HFC networks offering 500 Mbps + download speeds. If you're in a rural area, this pertains to you the least. If you're in a suburban area, chances are your ISP is already making the necessary upgrades to their infrastructure to deploy 500 Mbps + speeds to customers in your area. It will vary by location and ISP. If you're in a major city, go with a Docsis 3.1 capable modem !

Between this and the Arris SB6183, which one is better? I have the Arris right now, but looking to possibly move over to a Netgear modem instead.

I have been using the Arris for a few years and not sure if you can do better. I get 20% faster speed from it than my plan allows and never had any trouble. One got struck by lightening so bought another used on amazon for like 28.00, still going perfect.

I've got an old Arris SB6141 which only supports up to 200 MBPS and my plan is 250 MBPS. Is this a worthwhile upgrade? Xfinity doesn't support either, but at least I could get the full speed of my plan with it.

I have an XFINITY Extreme 400 Tier plan, but currently renting the ARRIS TG1682G that Comcast provided. Does anyone know if this CM500 is a notable upgrade? I'd love to stop renting and have my own modem, but want to make sure it's a better one!

Thanks OP! This is so timely as I had been looking at getting a cable modem anyway! BTW, it seems like the $10 off coupon would works on CM600 too.

maybe 20% more than guaranteed, but the real limit set by the ISP is never exceeded

@dikretaks

This CM500 will be good to switch to as long as you aren't using the phone service as well. Also, you will have to provide a router if you get rid of the current gateway you have for wireless connectivity.

I appreciate that. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on it and another $15 item I had my eye on for quite some time to take advantage of the Chase Holiday Discount of $15 off $60 when using at least on Ultimate Rewards point. Made this a no brainer.
