Well ya know, this isn't the 70's, and Climate Change has done a lot to diminish the vibrant blue of Lake Placid. This color merely reflects the reality of our on going decent into global catastrophe. Still a heck of a deal!

Bought this late last year and gigged with it for all of 2018 - it has been rock solid. I swapped out the tuners for Fender locking tuners and threw a Graph Tech nut on just to make it meet my personal preferences. This price is amazing for this! I do wish it was full scale sometimes, but you get used to the short scale pretty quickly. I will say that on mine, the neck pickup was pretty low output (I replaced it with a dual rail style pickup which was my plan when I bought it anyway.) The bridge pickup is solid for most rock music - definitely not suited for super heavy stuff though.

That's got to be the most washed out, dull, lake placid blue Fender Ive ever seen. Hopefully just a bad picture because even beat up 1970s jags/jazz/mustangs are brighter and deeper then that thing. Even tho I haven't touched a bolt on neck guitar in years I still think fondly of my old short scale fenders when I first started out. At this price if it had a matching head stock & rosewood fret board id be all over it

I see they've updated the Squier 51. Anybody remember those? It acquired cult status, so Fender brought it back as a Fender branded axe for a lot more money. The 51 was awesome btw. This probably is too.

I bought this guitar a few months back during a similar sale and I am quite pleased with it. I hadn't owned an electric guitar in a while (I'm a family man these days which leaves me little time to play), but it's nice for a middle of the road price range guitar. It's not a huge investment, so if I don't play it all the time I don't feel like it's money wasted.

I put some Elixir 11-52 strings on it and love it. I also ordered some Fender locking tuners and a Hipshot bridge this week, just because I love to tweak things. With this price it leaves some room for tweaking.

For the price, I say it's a no brainier. I don't remember $300 getting this nice of a guitar when I was younger. However, I will say that the 3 way switch definitely needs to be replaced, but I can live with it for now. Electronics are not my thing.

My 2 cents

The one in that review was an SS model, not an HS like this one (bridge Humbucker).

He also did not do any playing in the video — here's a review with just a sound demo, so you can hear the guitar without any talking:
