So the new MSRP of these is $15.99? Wish it was still $12.99

Yeah, the pricing of Amiibo is odd to me. I get like the big detective Pikachu was going to be more expensive, but then ones like the Zelda series weren't much different but cost more. The guardian aside - my favorite Amiibo ever.

Also, I'm not complaining, but I never got why Amiibo are part of GCU. As far as I know, no other accessory type thing is part of it. And clearly they aren't require or a game by themselves.

I think the problem that Nintendo faced is that scalpers would immediately pounce on amiibo, they would sell, out, and then the scalpers would jack up the price and re-sell them.

So Nintendo raised the price. They get more money to make video games, and amiibo are more available at MSRP to actual consumers.

I mean, they could have also produced more (and we'll see if that's what they do), but between Nintendo and scalpers, I prefer that my money go to Nintendo. Clearly the market demand is allowing them to raise the prices.

Actually I think this one is more bc it's 2 characters. Ridley just came out this month for $12.99

They were open at one point (I already have both preordered), so I guess it's just a matter of continuing to check when they come back "in stock" for preorder.

Except in this amiibo case, the price is higher only because it costs more to manufacture. It's in line with the Guardian amiibo from BOTW. Ridley is only $12.99 so I don't think the prices went up. But I do agree, Nintendo could/should raise the amiibo prices just so they get more money out of the amiibos than scalpers as I myself would also give them the money than resellers. I think in the end, Nintendo will just manufacture more because of the really high demand. They should be ramping up production because they just released a game where amiibos are mostly used.

Ridley was discounted to $12.99 at one point, but I think its MSRP is still $15.99. That's its current price at BB.

My understanding is that re-releases of older amiibo will be at the original $12.99 price, but anything newer than the BOTW Champion amiibo are at the higher price. Take a look at the price of the Inkling amiibo for SSB vs the original Splatoon series. You can't tell me there's a difference in manufacturing price in those.

Toy-to-Life toys have always been part of GCU. Probably the best thing of GCU compared to GameStop and Prime.
Disney Infinity, Skylanders, Lego Dimensions all got GCU discount.
Got many of them (max 3 each) when they're on sale or clearance with GCU discount and resold for profits.

Amiibo is the only TTL left from the old days and the newcomer Starlink which seems already getting deep discount.

its a "mini statue" that is essentially physical dlc. two reasons to buy. collect and display as well as the in game benefits that they give.
