Semi professional drummer here. Finally something I can speak to 😊 Gigged Iraq and Kuwait with Roland V-drums for the troops. I have experience with the Alesis kits you refer to as well. My opinion: the Alesis kits/ modules are toys compared to Roland. The Alesis kits would do for someone in an intermediate to amateur situation...maybe little bar bands. The Roland sound engine and dynamics are the dogs bollocks.

Awesome price... Amazon is at $1,300.

Still a little high for my young boys who are just starting out... so we have purchased the Alesis Mesh Nitro kit for $350.

How does this compare to the Alesis mesh kits, like the Nitro and Surge? I'm about to pull the trigger on the surge for $500, which is why I'm asking. I am not an expert on this topic. Appreciate any info or suggestions from those who are.

Awesome price, cheaper than used ones for sale.

My budget had to settle for the Alesis Surge mesh kit for 15% off at guitar center. Hoping the chrome painted steel rack holds up for my teen as the lower Alesis models are thin aluminum.

The CY-5 Pad is atrocious along with the CY-8s. I don't know why Roland even includes them in their kits. Misfires and eventually that edge will wear out and won't trigger. First thing I'd upgrade on this kit to a VH11.

The rest of the kit is pretty solid including the crash and ride.

Here's that full size set of drums that's every one kept complaining about in the other thread. It should be sturdy enough.

I have the TD-9 with upgraded high hat & cymbals. I love it, especially when I use the kontakt plugin and upgraded drum sounds! This is an awesome deal

Roland makes good triggers and modules but the best thing to do is convert an acoustic set with triggers, mesh heads, a megadrum, and a vst like addictive drums 2. For $750 you can get yourself a used acoustic kit ($150), Remo silent stroke mesh heads ($70), magnatrack or Triggera intrigg triggers ($200), a megadrum module ($250), and a 3 pack of addictive Drums ($80) . With this set up you would have infinitely better sound and feel. Seriously. Such a setup would beat even the TD50 rigs
